In UK, i saw a lot of asian women holds, pram their babies but the mothers are very slim, how did they keep so slim that we though that the babies are their aunty but no, it is their mother!
Some mothers said they eat very little foods during the pregnancy but my mom said it is not healthy way to eat less food just because we want to avoid fat gain.
some of the mother exercise during pregnancy but did not cause any miscarriage as a few did cause miscarriage due to exercise.
it is very interesting to know that in the shopping centre almost all asian women are slim at this time than in the past where there are overweight mother and this time underweight mother.
i am size 12 and would like to lose weight but i find it difficult. but when i am pregnant i want to become size 10 like these asian women who have a recenlty new baby.
A lot has to do with your tendency. Asian women (as in Oriental, Chinese, Japanese, etc.), are very slim and their diet is such that they remain slim. We desis have a high calorie diet as in niharis and biryanis, a lot of carbohydrates and fat, less protein, fruits and vegetables. During prgnancy, it is good to have well balanced and nutritious meals not load up on ghee and parathay as was originally thought in our culture. Also, desi women expecially those back home give up doing normal household chores during pregnancy although it does help to remain active.
During my first pregnancy I put on only 16 lbs, most of which were baby weight, water etc., and I was back to my pre pregnancy weight in a month! During the second pregnancy I put on 35 lbs and it it took more than a year to get rid off that weight.
But the key is to eat healthy and well. Get educated and ask your doctor questions about staying healthy during and post pregnancy, and do remain active. You must walk and do normal activities. If you do not exercise now, then don't start anything new during pregnancy but of you are used to exercising then moderate exercise is quite in order.
Thank you for your reply. It is interesting to see that now modern women are doing activities a lot rather than resting at home just because they are preganacy.
I am vegetarian and i do exercise regular around 30 to 60 minutes running on treadmill, sometime aerobic from DVD. Is it accept to exercise these during the pregancy or just 1 time every week as far as i do activity do house work, clean, cooking, walking around.
My mother said if i sweat during the exercise it will affect the baby as water will become dry evaporate from the stomach? so do it mean i must make sure i am not sweat from exercise for long hour due to heart rate beating faster, currently my heart beat up to 160rpm.
Best is to check with your doctor about your specific needs. If you are generally healthy and eating well, no blood pressure or other problems, your doctor will advise you accordingly. So I would recommend you check with your doctor.
Moms will always ask you to be extra careful because they will tell you what they know and not necessarily what may be correct at this point. However, there are many words of wisdom moms carry so don't completely ignore her, but do check with your doc.
Before you get pregnant, you should see a doctor for a complete check up so you can know any underlying problems that you may have and take care of yourself accordingly.
there are trainers who specialise in workouts for expectant moms. if you're really interested, maybe you should give that a shot. but as niksik said, be sure to clarify this with your doctor first.
generally though, i've heard that being active is really highly recommended throughout your pregnancy, as it makes childbirth and recovery easier and quicker, relative to doing nothing while pregnant. i haven't yet been in that position, so i can't speak for this personally, but i keep hearing this from my preggo friends.
Its all very well to be slim during and after pregnancy.....but you have to consider that you are responsible for the baby's health during pregnancy. Usually, exercise is not advised during the first three months of pregnancy to avoid miscarriage and to allow the fetus to develop. The thing to bear in mind about losing weight after pregnancy is that it takes nine months to gain the weight and you should be easy on yourself and allow at least a year for getting back into shape. I have seen many women lose weight instantly after giving birth and they put it back on again within a few months.
It would be sensible to do it gradually and allow your body to recover naturally without being underweight/overweight.
i think seeing all these hollywood celebs looking really slim and fit during their pregnancies and then losing it all in weeks, has really mindeffed with women. everyone thinks its possible and you know what, if you had a personal trainer- before, during and after, and if you have an entire team of nutritionists and dietitians preparing meals for you, then i’m sure it is! but thats not the case for the average woman. i feel as if there is so much of this stress and almost shame from putting on weight during pregnancies in toronto, and the pressure to take it off! its like, you’re wheeling your new born around in a $900 stroller, so how dare you be fat? you’ve had the baby almost 3 weeks ago! more than enough time to squeeze back into your designer jeans!
seeing pics of my mom thru her pregnancies, i can already tell i’m going to be a hippo and hubby will have to roll me into the maternity ward, but i’d rather do that knowing i’m going to have a healthy baby, than deprive myself of food and risk possible harm to my child.
of course, this doesn’t mean i’d go all out and nosh on whatever takes my fancy- i still believe healthy eating and moderate exercise are a must for pregnant ladies- before, during and after the pregnancy- but you put on what you put on- its not all from food.
Why gain weight?
Weight gain does things for you and your baby. First of all remember you are growing a new human being. We know that women who deprive themselves of good nutrition during pregnancy tend to have smaller, sickly babies who require more hospital time and have a higher incidence of problems including neonatal death.
eat healthy and have a healthy baby, much better than eating not enuff and having a child left with imp vits and minerals deficiency.
and some womens shape is just like that. they lose immeidately after child birth. heck some dont even gain that much. my mom wouldnt show until in her 7th month and would go back to her insy winsy measurements a month after child birth! but she used to eat like a is mommy looking, no? cow!
so dont compare ure body with other women.. especially movie stars! they have personal chefs and trainers!
Thank you to everyone for this information. I am not married and still mostly of them are married and have a child who are very slim than me as i though i must be at wrong size as i am only size 12 and unmarried. I think it makes me feel insecure that i am not fit.
Your metabolism has much to do with how quickly you lose "baby weight" but something you should never do is diet while pregnant unless you have the specific ok of your doc. You NEED more calories, regular mealtimes and healthy foods while pregnant and nursing to ensure the health of your baby. DONT take chances with this. Because for YOU, maybe it means a few less pounds but for your baby, it could mean the difference between being a college graduate or being a grocery-store stock person. Sorry to be blunt but its true.
If your main concern is losing weight, when you breastfeed, you BURN calories like mad. You get really hungry too but most of those extra calories go to milk production and baby-care. Eat healthy and wise and dont worry about losing weight till baby is a bit older.
Oh my God you should see the tiny size 0 hasidic jewish girls... they have like 3 kids by the time they're 22 and still look soo good! And they eat soooo much also... have no idea how they do it!
For some reason, I was blessed with this trait also. I eat like a linebacker but do not put on weight. Surely thats a blessing, esp since I SO love to eat!
But when it comes to little ones, you need to be really careful. When pregnant, make sure you eat the right things to keep a really healthy diet. When nursing, make sure to eat the things that are good for baby since what you eat goes into your milk. When I was nursing I had SUCH a craving for broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, sauerkraut...all the totally gaseous things ... and little one paid the price for THAT.
The weight will come off at some point...the thing is, try not to worry about it much till you're done with pregnancy and nursing. Proper nutrition and sufficient calorie intake is SO valuable to developing brains!

i think the key there is age! we're biologically most primed to have kids in our 20's and early 20's is better than late. their bodies probably bounce back and recover much more quickly than someone having a child in her 30's.
