The problem is that my female cousins who married before 20. and have children then they are overweight, before marriage they were size 8 then after have a children they become size 12 or 14. If i am size 12 then people will assume that i must have a child as i am not size 8. it is shame that i could not achieve size 8 even i exercise every day for 30 minutes, mostly walking so do it mean i am physically fit or not really?

no, not at all. the thing is, i craved them so much that those were all I wanted to eat and they are VERY gas-causing. My poor little baby boy got SO gassy and bound up from my eating! cause I was thinking - hey, they're veggies, they're healthy and I wanna EAT them, LOTS of them - that I never thought about the gastric effects...which were NOT good. Moderation in all things yeah? THATS the rule that I forgot!
the general rule of the thumb is to increase your intake by 300 calories. i would recommend prenatal yoga and walking for exercise. the yoga is not to be done before the second trimester, though.
oops...sorry! i had not read all the posts prior to answering so i didn't see that you were not married nor pregnant. everyone's different. i would suggest you join a gym and get a personal trainer if your weight/size bothers you this much.

i think for the most part those women get their shape back soon after having kids because they were genetically made up to be that way. they have the skinny genes. if your mother was thin soon after having a child chances are you will 2.

AE, i am nothing like my ammi. Ppl tell me i dont look like her daughter at all. I take after my khala who is tall and broad while my ammi is short and petite. Guess who DOES take after her? My skinny sister :(

My mom and I are different shapes! Before married she was very slim. after marriage then with me, she went fat and did not lose weight the baby weight and back to slim size. I think it is our bad luck that our genes are not slim easy as Angelina Jolies! But she has a lot of money to spend on fitness instructor all the time. What about all of you who got a child and did you manage to get back to normal size before you were married?
Ira...being healthy is what counts....not the shape of your body. There are many skinny people in this world that have numerous health issues and are not in shape at all.
Focus on staying in shape (internally) and dont worry much about weight and body shape.

i put on 40 lbs with my first one and lost it all in over a year without exercising. i had my second one 4 months ago and put on 49 lbs. i have to admit i'm having a hard time this time around losing the baby fat. firstly, there's definitely a tendency of being over-weight in my family and secondly, your metabolism slows down with age. i'll probably need to exercise this time around and go on a diet as well.

Hi Dawn, it is impossible to lose weight if you don;t exercise at all, i am surprise that you lose weight after 1 year without any exercise! Maybe it is because you were eating very healthy food, breatfeeding, lot of walking?
I had similar experience as Dawn.
First time round, I lost weight almost immediately. With bare minimum post natal exercises.
2nd pregnancy, the weight was just not shifting and I eventually resigned to buying a bigger size. Then during Ramadhan, all my weight suddenly dissolved. Even my watch was hanging on my wrist...and I quickly and happily gave away my "new bigger" size clothes I had bought just few weeks before.

It is interesting that you lose weight easily with little of exercise! What did you eat during the Ramadan while you have a baby to look after? What size are you now and before?

^^ actually I cant really put the weight loss down to anything unusual or specific that I did or did not do. Perhaps I was just stressed out. Because that sort of weight loss was unusual esp as I did not make the effort. I am 10 I guess...we get clothes from all over so I am not quite sure...but I do fit into UK 10 but S.Africa 10 can be little big.
I have always been a careful eater and have preferred salads/grilled/steamed veggies but at the same time I eat all the normal daal curries and prefer rice over roti (hate bread) pastas chinese etc and dont deny myself anything completley. I have a serious sweet tooth so there I need to control myself a bit.

During pregnancy you shouldnt eat less, but you shouldnt eat more of junk either. Eat good porportions of healthy foods.

Can everyone write a list of foods to eat, and other list that foods should be avoids, so we can understand what kind of foods we can eat as much as we like. I am sweet tooth so i eat a lot of chocolate, but i do exercise and still size 12 and could not go down.
