sleeping with feet facing makkah

Re: sleeping with feet facing makkah

Then why do you pray facing it? (assuming you do)...

Again, let me say this, when we place the dead in their grave we put them in so their head is towards Makkah.

Re: sleeping with feet facing makkah

We pray by facing towards Ka'aba, in line for the shortest distance.

If you are sitting in New York and have a very fast air borne vehicle and you want to travel in a straight line, you can reach Ka'aba by many different routes. You can go North or you can go South. You can go East or you can go West. At the end you will reach Ka'aba. This is because the Earth is round.

Coming back to the feet pointing towards Makkah, it only refers to the direction of Ka'aba using the shortest distance. Otherwise you can't point your feet anywhere because ultimately you can reach Ka'aba from all four directions.

Q.) 1. Can a person point his feet to the Ka’ba as long as he is behind a wall and also if he is in a masjid? If it is not permissible, please say why. 2. Can a person relieve himself in the toilet while facing the Ka’ba if the toilet is enclosed? If not please say why.

A.) 1. Generally, stretching one’s feet towards a person is a sign of disrespect. Similarly, stretching one’s feet in the direction of Qiblah, be it behind a wall or in a Masjid is disrespectful to the Ka’bah.
2. According to Imam Abu Hanifa (RA), it is prohibited to have our front or back facing toward the Qibla as expressly mentioned in the Hadith.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.

Re: sleeping with feet facing makkah

suhaib, the Ka'bah means "Base" in Arabic. Beduin even to this day use the word Ka'bah for the base of a hill or for ankles...

The significance of the Ka'bah comes from the "pilgrimage" (actually the word means debate and renovation) since it acts as a base for it:

وَأَذِّنْ فِي النَّاسِ بِالْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًا وَعَلَى كُلِّ ضَامِرٍ يَأْتِينَ مِنْ كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ
And call out to ALL MANKIND (not just the muslims) for the DEBATE. They will come together on foot and on all sorts of transport; They will (even) come from every farthest point (notice that physicality or spirituality is not specified).

that they may witness the benefits for themselfs and commemorate the name of The God in days specified, over what He has provided them from the livestock; then eat from it and feed the needy (as reciprocation of their appreciation to their Provider/Nourisher)

It has no mention of any aswad stone or touching of a cubic structure or any rituals... In many ways, Hajj is like an international conference for debate.

Re: sleeping with feet facing makkah

Once, Sayyiduna Khaja Ibraheem Ad’ham Balkhi was sitting alone in the Musjid with his legs stretched out. A Voice from the Unseen called out from the corner of the Musjid reprimanding him, “Ibraheem! You do not sit in the presence of the King in this manner.” He instantly folded his feet. It is recorded that after this reminder, he never again stretched out his feet at any place or time. The next time his feet were out-stretched was after his demise when the people performed his Ghusal.

Re: sleeping with feet facing makkah

This should be sufficient for a person to believe in not to point feet towards Kabah, at least for me it is.

While we are alive Allah :swt: gave us the choice to either obey and follow His laws or not thus some of us follow and some don’t. When we are dead than the choice is taken. This is really a good example that when we are dead how our feets are not pointing Kabah while we lay in our graves but while we are alive we did not really care about pointing our feet towards Kabba or some of us thought its a myth nothing to do with Islam.

Come on people take advantage of time while you have it otherwise it will be too late, don’t waste your time

Re: sleeping with feet facing makkah

Thanks.. I did not post here without the lack of reference but I never face my feet towards ka’abah… I have seen Arabs not having that respect. I have even seen them putting Quran on the floor, under their feet (witnessed right in front of my eyes while sitting in Riyaadh-ul-Jannah) … I guess it may be the difference in school of thoughts but some of our Pakistani brotheran do not bother to read up their own maslak and for them Islam is only what Arab do
