Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

More and more Pakistanis are agreeing with her. India has become what Pakistan was made to become.

The religious zealots and army goons are of the same power hungry blood. They've denied us contact with our heritage in India. They've isolated us from the world. Get rid of them and one day Pakistanis and Indians will realize how similar they always have been.

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

No one will ask her if she's a Christian..but people will demand she be a nominal Muslim to be a full Indian. This, at least in contemporary India...
My sense of freedom and dignity as a citizen was stolen decades ago -- since the time of Zia. Dared I walk sleeveless with no dupatta and bellbottoms (the fashion then) only to be accosted by strangers on the road and questioned if I am a ‘Christian.’ Zia’s Islam terrorised the women branded as ‘westernised feminists.
This puts the things into perspective, indeed India IS BETTER for some people, like if you want to party till 1:30am, drwon urself in booze or be promiscious, India will suit you much better.

On the other hand if you happen to be an ordinary muslim in India, you get burned alive in Gujrat or get raped in Mumbai.

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

Yes. Because we all know wearing bell bottoms and sleeveless tops made our our mothers night prowling promiscuous drunks.

It was innocent. It was fashionable. Look through your family albums and you'll see your own mother in a pair of jeans. If you don't your mother must of been home schooled.

Iconolast, seriously, why is it that only our generation is a bunch of backward degenerates? Pakistan was not made for Islamo fascist zealots. It was made to be a beacon of Islamic modernization. We were supposed to compete on par with India. Looking back, India has done more for itself than Pakistan has. Especially when it comes to minorities.

Today Muslims in India are treated better than Christians, Hindus or Sikhs in Pakistan. A Sikh becomes a traffic official in Karachi and we turn it into a international photoop. A Muslim inaugurates the BMW Manufacturing Plant in Chennai and not one paper cares what religion he is. Pakistan uses its minorities as photo ops to show to the world "look, we gave a Sikh a ribbon". That's just sad.

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

^I dunno which Pakistan u know about, when was the last time you visited Pakistan.

Even during 90's in the most prestigous medical college of Pakistan, there was not a single girl who wore jeans.

And refrain from being too personal, trust me i can do an excellent job of insulting your family.

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

drowning toh zara extreme hai, what if someone wants to stop at the FUBAR stage.. is India good for that too? From what I have seen pakistan is good for that too.

PS: party till 1:30 a.m? yaaaar party starts at 1:30 a.m....

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

I was listening to BBC last night and it seems India is too conservative for Bar owners, they were complaning that they have to close at 1:30am.

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

hmmmm boring place then...atleast 3-4 bajay tak to zara sharab or kabab and shabab ka daur chalna chahiye..

India say accha toh dubai hua yaani keh...

magar goa mein toh zara late night raves chaltay hain..woh exception hay shayed

Re: Sleeping ‘Guards’ of Delhi

I visit Pakistan every year sometimes more than that. I am talking about the Pakistan you do not remember. The one where we were not one of the poorest places to live. A time when we didnt issue fatwas against female pilots and parliamentarians. I’m talking about a time when Pakistan was young and life was simple. A time when we were the hub of South Asia. A time where we were competing with Dubai. I am talking about the 1960s BEFORE Pakistan was hijacked by religious fanatics. A time when we knew what our purpose was.

Look at albums from the 1960s. Look at albums from the 1970s. You obviously have no idea what Pakistan used to be. What we were supposed to be. People wore bell bottoms. They hung out late at night because it was safe. Girls and boys mixed at universities because gender distinctions were minimal. My parents and the parents of other Pakistanis were in no way a bunch of drunk whores as you rudely imply. People were full of life - free. Pakistan was like India is today, but only 50 years ago. We have lost that and I blame your short sighted memory for neglecting to pursue what we were meant to be.

Pakistan in the 1960s. That was supposed to be us.

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

It really does depend on where they live. Ask the average Gujarati Muslim, or CJ Bhagwandas...

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

Well ask our Christian friends if they feel Pakistani lovin' on the west coast.

India has pockets of prejudice. Pakistan has pockets of acceptance. Sad thing is, we say we're muslim, but dont show minorities proper courtesy.

Re: Sleeping ‘Guards’ of Delhi

Sorry…That was not supposed to be ‘us’…That is you and what background ‘you’ represent…Not me…

I represent being a Muslim with a Muslim background, Muslim family, Muslim heritage and Muslim lifestyle…

I am unique from any other culture in the world and I am proud of it…I don’t wish to, want to or would change myself because of someone’s perceptions of me…

If you wish to flow with the winds, so be it…I am too firmly grounded to my faith, my culture and my heritage which are all what I represent to be swayed by the winds of popular opinions…

What do you represent? A girl with open arms and revealing cleavage? You are welcome to it…Just don’t try to represent ‘us’ with that image…My heritage is far too noble to be represented by a picture of a girl revealing her cleavage…You are welcome to it…

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

Anti-muslim riots are limited to Northern parts of India only - UP, Bihar and Gujrat or Mumbai! The south is very tolerent, we hardly see any such things down there.

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

Well this was all western culture! I do not support it! But I do not want arabic or Islamic culture as well. As if I follow Islamic culture I can not live with my brothers under one roof as our wives are namahrem for each other. I would support our true indian/south asian culture.

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

Heres the thing then...if you are accepting of Islam and its values then your not going to appreciate a liberal society and in the same vain if your a liberal then you arent going to appreciate a religious society...

Nothing annoys me more sya than these stupid Iranians moaning about the fact that they have to wear a scarf in their country and how the West is so much better blah blah...its better for people like you...it doesnt make it better...If your country has a certain culture love it or leave it...

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

And from same New Delhi...orders given to "Butcher " and still i can smell the burning flesh of 2000 innocents !!!!!!!!!

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

For all their percieved freedoms, I would still perfer Pakistan over India any day...
Pakistan is in the grips of the same problem afflicting all Muslim countries, trying to define the place of Islam in the modern world. Pakistan will eventually come out of this phase aswell... Pakistan faces problems that India has never and probably will never have to contend with... Some are problems of circumstance others self inflicted, but our history is not Indias history...
But I can guarantee, that when Pakistan comes out of this phase of its history, it will be better for it.
Lastly, Pakistanis are there own worst critics. It doesnt seem fair that the author should compare a Muslim society with a Hindu society... How liberal are Indian Muslims I wonder? There are a many things that we as Pakistanis can be proud of when it comes to the Pakistani character, which is missing in the Indians. I sincerely believe that its our difficult history that has mad our people strong, resourceful, and even generous.
If Anjum Niaz feels Delhi fits her lifestyle better, then she is welcome to live there.. But she shouldnt be making unfair comaprisons, and nor should she overlook the aspects of Pakistani society that make it great. Meanwhile, I and MANY millions of others would perfer Pakistan with all its problems in tow...

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

Islam and Arab culture are not the same.

Indian and South-Asian are not synonomous..

We are Pakistanis and Muslims, our language/foods/clothes/art come from the former but our values/beliefs come from the latter.

People like you would have us go back to the times of pre-Islamic Hindu Jaahiliyyah (an age of darkness and ignorance for our people)...

Culture evolves, it's a superficial thing, I don't know why people are so obsessed with classifying culture as "western" and "south-asian" and insist on sticking to arachaic ways as though it be religion. What is so different and special about South-Asian culture if there's any such thing? Most aspects of culture are universal not South-Asian or Western... Today old English ladies wear Kaftans which are of Arabian origin, Pakis wear t-shirts and jeans, Chinese eat pizza, Arab women have started wearing Shalwar Kamiz, Indians wear Shirwani which is a Muslim Persian dress, Spanish villas look like certain houses in Pakistan.. These aspects of culture have become universal, cultures mix and evolve... The only cultural difference between different ethnicities is language which is the hallmark of ethnicity other than we all practice the same culture at least in the urban world... The rest is religion/ideology and that's the real thing because it's what you believe and what guides you.. We share linguistic similarities with India because North Indian languages originate in Pakistan and they wear sewn clothing which Muslims brought to India but our cultural simialrities end there, even the Afghan and Iranian women wear Salwar Kamiz now and they are not South-Asian rather Central-Asian.. Even racially we are not the same as Indians, we're both dark haired and eyes but even the Mexicans are that.. edited derrog comments

If certain communities in Pak don't like Muslim values and are so obsessed with Hindu culture they are welcome to pack their bags and do one to India but they have no right to tell the majoirty how we can and cannot live our lives because we love Islam and will uphold it forever.

Re: Sleeping 'Guards' of Delhi

Please be brief! I agree whatever you said. But I can not live without my brothers.
