To all the sleep deprived guppies, who work/study long hours and don’t get enough sleep (3-5 hours/night) due to their hectic lives, what’s your strategy for keeping up your energy level and alertness? I am not taking about caffiene or red bull (poop) but natural remedies.
I catch up on sleep as much as i can. If i get 3-5 hours per night during the week, i make sure i sleep in on the weekends to recuperate. During the week, try to stay active and eat healthy (eat breakfast instead of skipping it etc). If you are truly busy, you wont have time to sit and think how tired you are.
i sleep around 12 and wake up at 5 every morning so i get roughly 4-5 hrs of sleep during the weekdays. i run 5-6 miles a week and try to eat healthy. caffeine really doesnt help in the long run. cut down on bad carbs and sweets because they cause a crash after temporarily giving u a boost in alertness.
On serious note, when you have a hectic lives you choose your priorities like work and study and leave other things. Look at this way, what other things you do beside study and work? Are they super duper special?
I try to drink as much water as I can throughout the day...I find it really helps with increasing my energy levels.
Best thing to do is get a jug full and keep it at your desk, keep topping up your glass throughout the day and aim to finish the jug by the end of the day. If you aren't used to drinking plain water then start with diluted squash and then gradually cut down on the amount of squash you use.
^^ yup.. thats what i’m gonna swing next week @ work ..
problem is, i dont have a ‘workstation’ or ‘office’ or like.. cubicle…i’m mostly paddling on bike, or on my feet, just walking or running.. so i dont usually have a place to put stuff …
jug would be another problem, because its a potential risk near equipment..
I get around 4 hrs of sleep every night. I continously keep on eating while studying (the reason i sleep only for 4 hrs), which mostly includes chocolate, pepsi, coffee and all sorts of other junk food. I dont have a strategy that makes me alert. My sleep cycle only requires 4 hrs now. Even though, when i dont need to be up, I remain up (due to my sleep cycle) even when my body is restless.
Yeah a water bottle with a nozzle of some kind would solve that issue…but how to keep it with you when you’re not on the bike and running around…not so sure…
You could just make a pact to drink a glassful everytime you go past the water dispenser/kitchen and keep a note of how many you’re drinking…or keep water in areas you will pass throughout the evening…and drink it as and when…
Lol I dunno if any of this is any use…but a bit of brainstorming won’t hurt right?
Yeah i’m cranky if i sleep less than 9 hours
Is it possible to maybe cut down on some of the other things ni your life or try to use that time more efficientlY?
For every hour that we miss of sleep our body counts that as sleep debt.
so say a young adult requires 8-10 hours of sleep every night.
If you sleep 4 hours then your body takes the remaining 4 hours as sleep debt.
Thats why we can push ourselves as much as we can but then there comes a time where we cant and crash.
The crashing part is where our body is recovering from our sleep debts.
You really need to program your body into accepting and working around your schedule and stick to it.
My sleep patters are haywire but i stick to 'em
From Friday afternoon till Monday night I hardly sleep, maybe a total of 4 hours.
Which i recover when I sleep on Monday afternoon and wake up tuesday morning for two hours then back to sleep to get all the sleep i can.
If you do that then your body is fresh to tackle another few days on running on minimum or no sleep.
Sleep at work is a good idea too :D
Not for some though.
Power naps are awesome.
They sound blah but try one.
Sleep for half an hour with your alarm on.
You'll wake up all angry and groggy for being disturbed but after washing your face and fully waking up you'll feel refreshed
Has anyone else been sleeptalking when they're trying to catch up on lost sleep (I don't usually sleep talk). My sleep talking has been my mothers source of entertainment this week.
