It’s amazing how slangs become part of our daily routine conversation and to people of the same language but who are from different place, sometimes, these slangs become source of astonishment or laughter …
I was born and raised in Karachi.. so, the urdu was my primary language… While it is spoken all over the country and across borders, it has adopted many slangs which are specific to the city of Karachi… and most of the time, not picked up by people out of the city…
Among them, there is one which is used for a person who seems illogical from his conversation or behaviour… we say to him:
MiyaaN! hosh maiN ho yaa Paposh maiN?
Now Paposh Nagar is a famous place of karachi and there is no relation of it to being in hosh… it is just picked up to rhyme i guess..
There is one more which is now universal but it is really specific to notorious place of Karachi known as Laalu Khet or Liaquat Aabad. This area has a very narrow street, narrow enough for just person to pass at a time… It is refered to "Patli Galee" so the famous line goes like: **Betaa! nikal laY patli galee saY **:-p This one is universal now… Thanks to Umer Shareef’s stage shows…
Please, add more if you know of any and its back ground
Here are my dads favourite One liners. He used to say them in extreme anger, unfortunately the abcd-ness in us made us burst out laughing at 'em.
Roi ki tarha dhoon doon ga
Teer main bal ho ga tumharay main naheen ho ga
Phitkaar baras rahi hay
there was another one that had to do with rubbing yogurt on your face and going to sleep and some animal came and licked it all up forgot what its supposed to be in urdu
