Some comments about the Indian bowling attack on cricinfo:

Fad: “@ Phani: with this indian bowling…any one from crowd should also be invited to bat ..it will do no harm to batting team i believe !”

Sangakkara and Paranavitana grind India

The Sri Lankan top order served the Indians a painful reminder of that opening day in Galle, with Kumar Sangakkara and Tharanga Paranavitana, yet again, setting the stage for a mammoth first-innings total. The signs were ominous for India when they lost the toss, the hard and dry pitch with barely any assistance providing sufficient cause for apprehension. And the bowlers didn’t help their cause by consistently bowling short, offering plenty of opportunities to score on a generous track.

The virtual absence of swing and serious lack of movement, combined with poor lengths, had helped the Sri Lankan openers dominate the opening session. After lunch, it was the unthreatening bowling by the spinners that Sangakkara and Paranavitana exploited. Harbhajan Singh has a huge responsibility to bear, leading an inexperienced bowling attack, but the ease with which he was handled underlined the daunting task that lay ahead for the visitors.

As MS Dhoni had predicted, the pitch offered more bounce than in Galle but the spinners, despite the accompanying turn, created hardly any chances. And Sangakkara countered them with an attacking approach, scuppering any hopes of a fightback after they managed to dismiss Tillakaratne Dilshan. In the very over that Pragyan Ojha had Dilshan caught at extra cover, Sangakkara slashed one through point for four and audaciously stepped out of the crease to loft him over mid-on.

The brisk start provided by Dilshan, followed by Sangakkara’s fluent beginning to his innings prompted the Indians to go on the defensive almost immediately. The seamers had a deep point in place, and the spinners bowled with a long-on and deep midwicket. And while the slow bowlers kept a slip and a short leg, they rarely ever bowled on a length to draw the batsmen forward.

Harbhajan changed angles, varied his flight, but the pair used the away spin to pierce him through cover and point, and used their feet brilliantly when the ball was tossed up. Sangakkara deposited one over the head for a one bounce four while Paranavitana, the more cautious of the two, charged down and swung him over the deep midwicket boundary.

Ishant Sharma and Abhimanyu Mithun had struggled before lunch, though the latter was more probing initially. Mithun managed to beat the bat on a couple of occasions against Paranavitana, who was a little patchy to begin with, but Ishant gave him an opening with a short and wide delivery that was duly dispatched. Dilshan came to dominate the game as early as the fourth over, striking four consecutive boundaries off Ishant, two whipped through midwicket, one driven on the up past mid-off and the other slashed through point.

Tentative with his foot movement early on, Paranavitana gradually moved forward to deliveries pitched fuller and picked a couple of boundaries, beautifully driven past mid-off.

The seamers again had problems with their lengths post lunch when Sangakkara targeted them, pulling and whipping them behind square and delicately guiding deliveries pitched even fractionally short to the third man boundary.

Dilshan missed a golden opportunity to notch up three-figures when he was dismissed shortly before lunch. The two batsmen currently at the crease seem determined enough to bat India out for the second consecutive time.

Not really.

Balaji and Irfan Pathan were made look like super bowlers by our own (Pakistani) pathetic batsmen. Zaheer is really the only consistent bowler they have and he too have picked up an injury which keep ruling him in/out on consistent basis. with Kumble gone, Bhaji is really not consistent on all wickets.

Indian really are facing crises in blowing department just like we are facing in Batting department.
