BCCI at its best. How low and pathetic can you get, apparently the pit is bottomless if you are BCCI. Despite this hopefully England will whip them as well. You can have money, throw your weight around and buy MOM awards for your favorites but you cant win matches and series.
Skipper Dhoni given Man of the Match award to boost his morale?
NEW DELHI: The decision to give MS Dhoni the Man of the Match award at Sunday’s ODI againstPakistan surprised many watchers. Though the skipper had top-scored for India with 36, his wicket-keeping wasn’t top-notch and he dropped the catch of his opposite number, Misbah-ul-Haq. Sources said Dhoni wasn’t the frontrunner for the award but pipped others to the post at the last minute.
The MoM awardee is chosen by a jury of commentators. Sources said the commentators who voted for Dhoni claimed that the choice was unanimous. However, one former cricketer who voted in favour of Dhoni told TOI that Dhoni was given the award to boost his morale at a time when the time wasn’t doing well.
The decision so surprised some commentators — who were not involved in the decision-making — that they questioned the rationale of giving the skipper a ‘consolation prize’ when others deserved it more.
For most who saw the game, the top contenders for the prize were Jadeja, who had chipped in with a useful 27, bowled an economical spell scalping the wicket of Umar Akmal as well taking a brilliant catch in the deep. He also fielded brilliantly throughout the game and could have claimed another wicket but for the dropped catch.
Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal was almost unplayable as he teased and toyed with the Indian batting to claim his career best ODI haul, five for 24. He was another contender. Medium pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was also in the running for his magical opening spell.
According to sources, the Pakistan team unofficially complained to the commentators for not choosing opening batsman Nasir Jamshed as the MoM in the opening ODI match played in Chennai. Jamshed had scored a match-winning century but the award was given to Dhoni for his brilliant ton in a losing cause. The Pakistan team management felt the MoM should have gone to the winning team.
Re: Skipper Dhoni given Man of the Match award to boost his morale?
As stated earlier Dhoni did not deserve MOM for 3rd ODI. What a joke. Personally I wish he would disappear. Plays well once in 10 innings. Subpar keeping. Has no guts to drop Gambhir Sehwag yuvraj raina Tobit. Ok sehwag finally dropped. Too image conscious.
Lots of folks in India are disgusted with BCCI. One of my relatives took his son to wankhede stadium and rooted for England circa 3-4 weeks ago (T20). He says he supports any opponent. Till BCCI cleans up its act.
This MOM award is shameful. ( he did deserve the 1st one IMO).

not only 3rd but firs ODI also
Re: Skipper Dhoni given Man of the Match award to boost his morale?
He did deserve the award for the first ODI. He played very well that day. But for the 3rd one Ajmal deserved it without a doubt.
Chalo koi gul nai, it's not that big of a deal.
huma Nasir also made century n Pakistan won so whose century deserved MOM , losing side or winning side
Re: Skipper Dhoni given Man of the Match award to boost his morale?
There is no doubt that Nasir would have deserved the MoM award in the first match and Dhoni was a close second. But because that was a close call I'd give them the benefit of doubt on that one and say ok, give it to Dhoni.
But the MoM award for Dhoni in the third match is simply a joke. As mentioned in the article there were a number of players, led by Ajmal IMHO, who would have been contenders for the MoM award in that match. Dhoni was not one of them.
We won the series, so I'm happy. But these kind of things really make me question the intelligence of certain people.
Re: Skipper Dhoni given Man of the Match award to boost his morale?
^^ it is not as simple as two scored centuries, so winning CENTURION MOM.
DHONI at # 7 scored 113 out of 228. Take away 20 extras he scored 113 out of 208 runs scored by batsmen. He came in at 29 for 5. At home my brow and everyone else stopped watching. It seemed to be over.
Granted Pak was 21 for 2. So Nasirs innings was responsible for victory. But Younus 58 steadied the innings. And Manlike 34 was also key. Nasir as an opener scored 101 runs out of 229. Subtract 10 extras he scored 101 out of 219 scored runs.
IMHO this was an easy decision. That's what makes sports discussions fun.

To me it was not, but as mentioned before I can live with the decision to give the MoM to Dhoni in the first match because there was a case to be made for him. In the third ODI however there was NO case to be made for him, yet he still won the award. That's what pisses me off.
