For the life of me, I can’t figure out what skin-tone I am when it comes to picking out stuff like foundations or concealors. I’m a typical brown girl. I am not fair, but I am not kali either. I tend to get a bit tan if I stay out too long in the sun, but at times I look like I’m a bit fairish but that’s not true.
So, I think I have yellow undertones but I was looking at things and if I have more blue than green veins on my inner wrist that’s something else? I don’t know what color veins I have anymore =(
So what is up with
Yellow and olive undertones
Pink and yellow undertones
Primarily pink undertones
Golden brown to ebony undertones
I just looked at my wrist and some veins looks blue and others look green to me … huh ???
i don’t think it works. but you have medium skin according to your description (NC 40/42 + in Mac) and usually asian/middle eastern people have yellow/olive undertones.
Some MUA say that you should buy a pink based foundation because it looks healthier but i don’t believe in that, you should stick to your natural tone and use blush for healthiness
as for concealers, i find a pink or peach based concealer works best even when you have warm/yellow undertones.
i did a lot of make up on pakistani gals, most of them had neither too dark nor too fair skin, kinda in between, which is what the OP said, so she's at least an NC40
yellow and olive skin tone, must stick to yellow based foundation for natural effect then leave the rest on blush ons and lipstick of neutral colours or pink family to work.
Actually NC40 would be way too dark for someone who’s tan, NC40 is a deep yellow color, of course some desi women are NC40 but if OP is just tan, I think NC30-35 seems more appropriate. N is for Neutral and C is for cool, (these are by MAC standards, of course. However, MAC standards have become quite universal so it’s best to use these so I would really suggest going into a MAC store to get checked, and be sure to check in natural light also and go with what feels right. The lady tried to match with an NC30 and it was way too yellow, so I am an NC25 on the face and an NC20 on the body, I usually wear NC25 and blend it down since NC20 can be too light for my skin. For concealer, I use NW20, the W (warm) cancels out darkness so under eye concealers should be in NW and for pimples and scarring, you CAN use NW but it’s better to use a concealer that matches your skin. NW20 works for me for both under eye and imperfections because I think I have neutral skin. I think you’re better off going in to a store to get matched up but I have a feeling you might be NC30-NC35, NC35 if you’re more darker and NC40 if you’re much deeper. This picture looks close to NC40: http://kittykittygossip.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/kimkardashianbefore.jpg
NOTE: If you have blue veins then you are cool and green then you are warm, if you have BOTH then you are neutral.
Orrrrrr that might be a purple/blue vein you might be confusing for magenta in which case you should use a concealer in NW to cancel that darkness out.
Most desi's will have warm undertones and will be NC (neutral cool) or occasionally C (cool) in MAC foundation. Yet to see anyone who needs an NW, except for concealers.
I'm with cinnamonroll as well. By the OP's description, she's probably about NC35-40. That's the general mid range for not fair but not too brown and most people fall into that range.
Yeh, best thing is to check your shade with a make up artist, and bear in mind that they can be wrong so i'd suggest you have it applied, get a sample if you can and check at home if it's right, sometimes they talk you into buying something and you trust them but the lightings and sometimes their judgement are misleading. now it depends how tan you are and how yellow is your skin, i was suggesting around nc40+ coz i wear nc25 and i can get up to nc30 in the summer so i consider it to be more medium-light than tan, but then i havn't seen what you look like ;)
On another forum (might have been makeup alley, I can't really remember :() there's loads of info + suggestions for ppl to match up their current foundation shade with those of other brands.. I was going to post it once then totally forgot about it.. Would have been soooo useful here eg. something like MAC NC35 - Estee Lauder Double Wear Sand - Nars St. Tropez..

there; you pick your undertone (warm) and your type (medium to dark for you), click submit and you have a list with all the foundations, you’re probably nc35-40
