An advert for skin-whitening soap has sparked a debate in Pakistani society about what many are calling the country’s ‘obsession’ with attaining fairer skin.

Campaigners say that the idea of having fair skin is unfairly linked to personal and professional success in Pakistan.

Even though such adverts do come in for criticism, cosmetic retailers and salon owners say they have seen an increase in demand for skin-lightening products and treatments in recent years.

Its lovely to be brown and it’s lovely to accept and live with the colour of our skin. Sania has the following say:"It’s not surprising a lot of people deal with self-hate. When you understand our conditioning as servants of western, white, and male oriented neocolonialism, you understand that these shackles promote hatred for everything that could undo them. Love for ones self and for ones people is something western neocolonialism will never promote.
My beloved ustaadh, Malcolm X, countered self hate within the African American community. In one speech, Malcolm repeatedly asks his audience: “Who taught you to hate yourself? Who taught you to hate the color of your skin to such extent that you bleach to get like the white man? Who taught you to hate your own kind?” Malcolm’s teachings were able to convert the self hatred instilled in African Americans by their oppressors into a message of love for oneself and community. I hope and pray a similar message reaches my people of Pakistan.”

Its not simply a ‘Pakistani’ problem as a ‘country’. Its prevalent in many societies across various countries. To paint it as such is just bleh.

well i wont lie, i have only seen cafeites from a distance thru a telescope. most cafe regulars have butts that rival the full moon on a cloudless night. whereas PA posters are amavas ke chand.

Let me say the final words on the topic

Once I saw pictures on indian body builders.. first thing came into mind was “they dont look indian”
So physical features play a part to wards whole color thing.

If all browns were muscular and stuff.. and lived in rich countries.. then that would be considered “desirable”
