If you haven’t watched it, go watch it. It’s a great movie. Love its reference to Time Dilation and General Relativity.
What do you folks think of Stephen Hawking’s idea of apparent horizon and firewalls? They clearly used his theory of Apparent horizon and NO event horizon in the movie. Without revealing too much about the movie, Black holes don’t have an event horizon because its incompatibility with Quantum Theory (as even depicted in the movie). There is information escape in Hawking’s new theory. Or did I not understand the movie?
I have to watch the movie, but if I am connecting the dots properly, you are talking about the theory where Hawking argued about the death scenario of a black hole. It goes something like this.
Near the event horizon, every now and then, out of nothingness, two particles pop out (a regular one and it's anti counterpart). If such event occurs, then there is a good chance that before those particles annihilate back into each other, black hole would suck one back, and other would escape out. I think that escape of particle is what Hawking referred to as the information leak (as black holes are described as the region of spacetime from where no information can leak out, aka no observation can take place beyond the event horizon)
Over the period of time, such occurrences could make black hole lose enough mass (or energy) that it could no longer wrap the spacetime around it, and would explode back into a regular (non-black hole) lump of mass, and hence would die as a black hole.
I wrote it out of memory, so description may sound sketchy. Hawking's book 'black holes and baby universes' talks about it in detail.
I have seen the movie and from what I remember them saying about the black hole is that it preserves time in a similar manner to converting a 3D world over a 2D surface as data ... They said it was spherical ... And the images of the black hole suggested a fixed images of what could be things that have entered it through time. When entering it clearly the science fiction part of it starts and suggests the traveller has reached a domain where he can interact in time ... depicted by showing time as a series of ordered clips.
I am not familiar with Hawkings writings on black holes enough to comment on that parallel, but I do know that the film was made with the intent to follow latest studies on particle and astrophysics.
did Mr Hawking get some new data ?
or its the same process of writing one mathematical model after another.
Which is been going of for like 60 years with big(false) promises of major break through?
I liked that movie, but like i said in movie section some thing was off for me.
Still my fav movie about such topics is "Contact"

Exactly the part that made me think of Hawking's new theory that there is no Event Horizon and that it's possible to fall towards Singualirity and end up somewhere strange, in a different dimension perhaps? No calculations yet but it's possible per Hawking's newly developed hypothesis. NO way to prove any of it of course.

Yes, there is information leak and you are right about dying black hole. That IS what I am talking about. Watch the movie and we shall discuss it further. Don't want to spoil it BUT the black hole in the movie is apparently OLD and relatively stable. Watch it!

Incredible. You know Science isn't supposed to comfort you. That's not its job. Way to judge scienists and their work. Why don't you try? Scientists may be arrogant and have a huge inflated ego but their love for the truth keeps them from making HARD conclusions about anything. Their search for the truth keeps them going even after their answers may have satisfied the billions. Science isn't religion. Don't look at it the same way.

Thank you for selecting better words "arrogant and have a huge inflated ego".
So you didn't say what physicists did, to prove me wrong, rather told me how make peace with "arrogant , inflated egos"
And told me, how with out doing any thing they satisfied billions ?
Why people are being satisfied with the claims of physicists when they did not have any break though in 50 years ?
What are you talking about? At least a dozen subatomic particles are discovered in last 50 years. We know for sure that black holes exist, at least one at a center of every galaxy. Scientist have discovered at least 1000 new planets outside or solar system. Human being landed on another heavenly body.
Black hole was found by visual inspection.
Better rockets mean better manufacturing. Most people today are mesmerize by things which came about because of nano technology. They made things smaller and smaller. Better material.
Even control the behaviour of material. But at the end of the day its only better manufacturing techniques.
Such tech help to see(not to see) black hole.
Help get machine to mars.
etc etc
