**RAWALPINDI: A Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flight to Lahore was diverted to Islamabad on Friday after a woman singer on board started shouting for her purse which she believed had forgotten at the departure lounge of Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Dawn has learnt.**
Shabnam Majeed, who was flying back to Lahore in the PIA flight PK-653 after performing at the Independence Day celebration at the Presidency overnight, started shouting mid-flight and forced the pilot to divert back the flight to Islamabad.
She claimed that the purse contained Rs18,000 in cash, credit card and gold ornaments.
After the PIA flight was diverted back to Islamabad, the singer was brought to the departure lounge to search her missing purse, but her effort proved unproductive.
Finally, she lodged a complaint with the PIA authorities and again boarded the flight for Lahore but it all caused a considerable delay of the flight and inconvenience to the passengers as well.—Mohammad Asghar
RAWALPINDI: Managing Director Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Captain Ijaz Haroon Monday conceded that the* airlines has technically gone bankrupt**.
Responding to questions in the popular Geo News programme “Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Sath”, while referring to an article published in newspapers proving with documentary proof that the corporation had gone bankrupt, the MD said, “That’s true. I will not try to deny the fact. I concede that PIA has technically gone bankrupt. But all this did not happen in a day or overnight or a month or a year and a half. The airlines had technically gone bankrupt since 2000. The government has been assisting the corporation. In 2001, PIA sustained a loss of Rs13 billion. The government injected money into the corporation so as to bail it out. In 2003 also the government injected money into PIA but halted the practice. As a result, the ‘patient is now on the death bed’.”*
The airline has been there to serve the ruling elite and armed forces more than the public. Since our ex-president has stared singing and giving tabla performances, what can we expect but marasis being added to the privileged class.

Late passenger makes hoax bomb call to delay plane
August 18, 2009 - 4:34PM
A businessman running behind schedule triggered a bomb scare on an airplane in a desperate attempt to catch his flight, Indian police said today.
Vijay Khandelwal, 35, was stuck in a traffic jam on the way to New Delhi airport last week when **he realised he would miss the IndiGo plane to Kolkata **unless it was held up, senior police officer Satyendra Garg said.
Khandelwal was arrested after he confessed to making a hoax call on his mobile phone.
“Just to delay the flight’s departure, he telephoned the call centre of the airline and announced there was a bomb in the aircraft,” Mr Garg said.
Security officials at the airport were alerted, and began an major emergency operation to search passengers and luggage.
Police arrested Khandelwal by tracing his mobile number and taking a statement from his taxi driver, who had overheard him making the hoax call and refused to drop him at the airport.
Authorities declared the emergency over after 90 minutes and the plane took off four hours late - without Khandelwal.

by the way she is a brilliant singer and she must have powerful admirers who admire her more than just for singing
otherwise it would have taken alot to get the flight back , what i am surprised is other passengers didnt resist. no wonder why PIA is Bankrupt.
how pathetic and tragic on the other hand... the airline would have lost at least half a million or a million for this turnaround to the airport..... talk about connections in Pakistan.... since she performed at the President house, surely she would have some good connections up in the purse ....
other passengers should sue the singer and airline as well for that..
