Religiously speaking we are asked to love prophet more than anything on this earth....

The question is : loving the Prophet is the part of our faith, but can we say the same thing about the places where he lived?
If given choice, where would someone liked to be buried.. Makka/ Medina or in his / her homeland?

a good number of very religious muslim will love to live their lives in madina or makka....
one of my mom's cousin wanted to work in medina just to live near the mosque of the prophet...
BTW the love for once mother land is natural
but majority muslim cant think that their motherland is superior or equal to holy cities of Madina or Makkah

but again religious teachings don't specifically require for this. right?
I've seen people who avoid throwing guthli of dates from KSA due to this sacredness concept.

our religion does not require us to move to Madina or MAkkah…but no restriction on Ahle mohabbat…
those who love Hazrat Mohammad 
have different way of expressing their love…we have Hazrat Bilal who left madina munawwara after wisal of Hazrat Mohammad
throwing away date will not make us non believer or is a sinful act IMHO..but we do not like to throw away the guthli of dates from madina..just out of respect for Prophet …aur amal ka dar o madar to niyat per hi hota hai…

well said. Love does express itself in different ways. One way is follow the teachings of prophet in their spirit and other way is what is mentioned in above posts. We people actually follow easy ways of expressing love by putting Quran in Jazdan and not following what is the message of Quran.
