Sindh Gov Prevents IDPs from Entering Sindh

ARY digital reporting now live along with interview of Shazia Murrey, that SIndh government has prevented entry of IDPs into Sindh.

Shazia Marry stated that if IDPs move into houses of their friends and relatives it will make registration and helping them difficult, hence the decision. She stated that IDPs will be supported inside the camps set up.

Comment: This treatment of IDPs is a bigger disaster than anything else.

Re: Sindh Gov Prevents IDPs from Entering Sindh

First Punjab govt refused and now Sindh. Its not going to help, really disgusting. Why are we treating our own people as foreigners? Afghanis were given better treatment than this, shame on these govts.

Punjab Govt does not and CANNOT refuse entries, they merely arent setting up camps, there is a difference. Swat is close to Punjab, whether they set up camps or not, people will come and settle, like it or not. The many urban centers in Punjab are the easiest choices for the IDPs to settle down anyways.

With that being said, maybe 1 out of 200 IDPs would actually go all the way to Sindh, and they’d only goto Karachi out of the entire province, or maybe Hyderabad. As much as Altaf bhai would exaggerate, here is the true reflection:

**KARACHI: Pakistan People Party (PPP) leader Raza Rabbani on Friday said that issue of the internally displaced persons entry into Sindh was being exaggerated.

Speaking to students of the Sindh Madrasatul Islam at a seminar on National Security and Inter-provincial Harmony here, Rabbani said that IDPs had arrived in Sindh in very small number and said they would return to their native areas as the situation returns to normal.**

MQM calls for strike against IDPs entering Sindh

Its funny how the MQM is now supporting the JSQ which is protesting against the arrival of any IDPs due to a war their chief was demanding.

KARACH - MQM Rabita Committee has assured its full support to the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) call for a peaceful strike tomorrow (Saturday) in protest against the settlement of displaced persons of Swat and Malakand in Sindh.
JSQM chairman Bashir Qureshi had appealed to the people to observe a shutdown strike on May 23 to express their opposition to the government’s policy for accommodating internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Sindh province including Karachi.
JSQM (Arasar Group) has also given a strike call on May 23rd and 25th against the settlements of IDP’s in Sindh.
To muster support from the MQM, JSQM’s 5-members delegation called on the MQM Rabita Committee members Waseem Aftab and Shakir Ali at Khursheed Memorial Hall here on Thursday. JSQM’s central finance secretary Naeem Mandhro led the delegation.
Both sides agreed to strengthen their contacts for a joint stance on Sindh-specific issues such as the IDPs affair.
JSQM leaders expressed their deep concern over the migration of the displaced persons of Swat, Buner and Malakand agency to Sindh province. They informed the MQM Rabita Committee members that Sindh government so far had neither maintained any record of the IDPs nor registered these people.
JSQM delegation further said that under the cover of IDPs, large number of Taliban were also coming to Sindh and this would be dangerous for peace in the Sindh province in future. They expressed the hope that MQM would participate in the strike of JSQM.
In response, the MQM Rabita Committee leader assured the JSQM delegation of their full support. They said that it was the responsibility of the Sindh government to take serious notice of Sindh people’s concern about Taliban. They further assured the JSQM that MQM would fully support it against Talibanisation.
Meanwhile, other parties in Sindh have also opposed the IDPs’ entry in Sindh and the JSQM had also garnered support from Sindh United Party on this issue.

*Nisar Panwhar, an MPA belonging to MQM said that the people of Sindh have sympathies with the affected persons and would also extend assistance to them but would not allow them to settle here. A JSQM leader Asif Baladi, MQM’s Shabir Qaimkhani and others also addressed on the occasion.

The JSQM supporters gathered outside the Karachi Press Club on Thursday and chanted slogans against the settlement of outsiders in Sindh. The demonstration was a part of JSQM’s protest against the influx of IDPs in the province. MQM leaders also participated in the protest demonstration.*

Once again, shameful stuff. This is now two provinces that have adopted EXACTLY the opposite kind of behaviour as what is required.

If there was ever a time to be welcoming and demonstrate that ethnic differences mean NOTHING this was it. This is surely much more damaging than the resentment stemming from collateral damage, because this isnt even comprehensible.

hahi Syed slams ‘inhuman treatment’ to IDPs
Updated at: 1830 PST, Friday, May 22, 2009
KARACHI: President Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh, Shahi Syed Friday said the Swat IDPs should not be treated as migrants but be considered as victims of terrorism and must be extended support as brothers.

In a statement, Shahi Syed expressed regret on what he said the Rangers and workers of some parties stopping the affected families traveling in busses to Kashmor and ban on migration of Swat victims to Sindh and Punjab. “The inhuman treatment to Swat victims be stopped,” he asserted.

He demanded of the government to take notice of the above.

The ANP leader said the IDPs being the citizens of Pakistan should be allowed to travel to any part of the country.

Re: Sindh Gov Prevents IDPs from Entering Sindh

there should be no notion of 'migrants'. the whole system needs a boot in the rear.

In the same tone IDPs can enter and settle anywhere in Sindh too but that doesn't need govt's support. I want all provincial govts to support the IDPs by setting up special camps for them.

Re: Sindh Gov Prevents IDPs from Entering Sindh

^ not just that, stop with the treatment of them as an unwelcome guest that nobody wants to have and everyone tries to pawn off on the other and says no we'll try to manage them but ye wo falana look over there look at that province isnt it greener?

anyone who spreads negativity about displaced people needs to be fired.

People have been stopped at Punjab-Sindh border i.e, Kashmore where thousands are now stranded, thats what now Dawn news is also reporting.

Next time think about all this before waging civil wars and supporting the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people.

Re: Sindh Gov Prevents IDPs from Entering Sindh

Why was the strike thread merged?!?!?! That has nothing to do with the Sindh Govt, it was a call by the Jiye Sindh supported by the MQM, and is a seperate topic! You cant stand any criticism of the MQM can you?

not really. I can advocate for both a just war, and humane treatment of civilians displaced in it who would otherwise be held hostage.

no real stretch of logic there Spock.

Sadly, your advocacy doesn't do anything when 2 + 2 will always equal 4. You should have realized BEFORE that this civil war would be a total humanitarian disaster. Some pro-war people didnt even realize that because of this operation hundreds of thousands of lives will be affected permanently, UNTIL these lives started bombarding and affecting their own cities.

Re: Sindh Gov Prevents IDPs from Entering Sindh

This is a reaction to punjab not even allowing IDP camps, let along free movement of IDPs in their houses.

hahahahahahahahaha and how do you explain the strike calls by the MQM against the IDPs and their settlement?

The calculus for me has always entailed a humanitarian disaster, and there has never been a credible alternative offered.

This is a disaster that was scripted the day Taleban to germinate, fester and take over Swat. Not acting against them when they tried to take over Buner and Hazara would have only increased the disaster, not mitigated it.

If it was 'not stand criticism of MQM' the thread would be in trash, however both Sindh govt and MQM are opposing IDPs in Sindh means same topic.
