[FONT=Times New Roman]ok so ilove goin thru all the new businesses on facebook that make replicas ofdesigner outfits…now i knw thr are ppl out thr thats wrong and it shudnt bedone..and if i was a designer charging thousands of dollars per outfit id becut too if these ppl wernt coming to me..but the truthis not everyone canafford such overpriced outfits…and this is whr replicas come into thepicture…i think its fab how these businesses who make replicas are makingfashion more accessible to everyone…
but…
im sick and tired ofthe fraudsters!..seriously watermarking over orginal picsmaking it look like its ur own deisgns…wrong! i think business should statewho the orginal deisgner is and that they are making a replia of this outfit..that it wnt be 100% matching the orginal and that most of the time itsinspired but the orginal…
2ndly…now this really ****s me…thr are some really good people out thr whodo the right thing by thr clients…they do some awsome work…but then u seethr hard work being stolen by other less retuable businesses claiming its thrwork!!!
Outrageous!!!
i think its abttime we dedicate a thread strictly for naming n shaming suchscum!-
its not jus business that are suffering frm such liars…customers are misleadin believing thr geting top quality gud when in fact thr geting dodgygoods…people are wasteing hard earned money …can u imagine some bridewating for her wedding jora and the horror when she realises shes jus recivedjunk!
I am sick and tired of all pakistani designers + fake one’s period. what happened to that good ol time, where we would just go to the bazar with ammi and picked out whatever the hell we wanted to dropped off to the darzi? life was so much simpler with just pipping around the neckline and sleeves
im against ALL replica’s…If i cant afford a certain pakistani designer i will look within my budget…i think its disgusting how people think its ok to wear a replica…
dont you see the psychology? its because they want to pass it off as the real deal, why? to show off? to gain a certain status level in society… by wearing a knock off will not make you cool, because u will never fit into that clique of people who can afford the real deal…
i hate all those faltu designers on fb making replicas…makes my blood boil…
i buy original (desi or western), i buy what i can afford and i dont aspire for things i cant…
Okay Sohni, so say I want a nice HSY design but I can't afford to spend 2 grand on it. Do you say I should just buy an ugly one on the high street?
It's not always about showing off the brand names, half the people around us can't tell if you're wearing a designer suit or a £50 suit. I don't have an issue with replicas themselves, people are entitled to wear them if they want to, and there will always be a market out there.
Oh, and this isn't to say I condone people stealing another person's work and marking their name on it, that's something else which is a seperate issue, which is what Sameera is talking about. Replicas are fine, just don't steal someone else's images and pass them off as your own.
^ exactly! if you go into forever 21 for example, most designs are copied from high end designers, just sold for a fraction of the price. they copy clothes and jewellry. i understand it being annoying for the designers who are creative and work hard to make their designs unique. but not everyone is rolling in dough and will pay ridiculous prices. i'd get into how splurging for usless things is haram, but thats been discussed enough lol
I can see that people are still very much divided on thewhole buying original designer pieces vs. replicas...and I know this argumentcan go on and on and on lol
But my intention when I started this thread wasn’t to discussthe issues of original vs. replica as devilish angel has stated that this hasbeen done in the past
It’s quite clear there is a huge market for replicas...andits time everyone accepts that...you may not agree with it and nor should uhave to...
I respect both views, but personally I would buyreplicas...I wish I could buy designer all the time..But unfortunately my bankbalance doesn’t allow such extravagance
Sohni, I have to say I totally disagree with you, I thinksits designers who set this divide in society when it comes to fashion...so manypieces are sooo disgustingly overpriced that normal woman can only dream onwearing their designs...I’ve read that particular designers charger up to $10,000for a outfit....that’s ridiculous...every woman should have the right to wearbeautiful clothes, for example someone may have a wedding to go to...she maynot have $2000 to spend on a amazing designer dress...she has kids, cost ofliving has increased and so on...but she has $800 to spend on a amazing replicathat makes her feel beautiful and special what’s wrong with that???
BUT....this is where I want to steer away from thisargument...i and the many people who agree with me could argue this point withpeople who don’t til we’re blue in the face yet I’m sure we wouldn’t get anywhere as I’ve said before everyone’sentitled to their own views...
Now discussing replicas – as mad hatter said the point ofthis thread is to discuss the issue of replicas businesses stealing each otherswork and passing it off as their own...and what makes my blood boil is thatthey don’t see anything wrong with it and when questioned about they say isother people do it..lol...what????
L ast week I came across a business who stole work fromafshai designs- I left a msg for this lady stating that isn’t your design, eventhough she watermarked her name all over it –didn’t get a reply lol and when I mentionedthis to afshai, she couldn’t do anything about it, thats so unfair she’s worked soohard on this replica and someone else is taking credit..that’s not on!!!
I can’t even imagine how businesses who have their workstolen must feel no to mention customers...how can u trust someone who doesthat...it’s like “hey I know its not our picture but trust us we’ll make somethingjust as nice for you”
Sometimes we are sitting ducks for the many fraudsters onfacebook...and it’s time we customers take action...even business owners who dothe right thing...i thought maybe we could start a thread where we name n shamebusiness who have stolen other peoples work so we can bring some accountabilityin this area of business where replica businesses keep popping up like mushrooms
Once we get people talking it will create more awareness, and my greatest goal is that is may just awaken the conscience of those thieveswho steal and mislead.
If one or 2 people take a stand people don’t notice but if100 or 200 or even more do then businesses will notice
So thats my view(and me venting lol) does anyone feel the same way ????
Dunno where you live but for many women with families, even $800 is too much for a designer replica to wear to a wedding.
ppl can wear whatever designer they want, but when you start judging others for not wearing them or wearing replicas, it just shows how out of touch with reality you are.
Original pieces are also inspired by something else. Its not like designers give birth to these designs in their mind...no...their work is also inspired by something else.
There is nothing wrong with replicas...you cannot really look down or fault someone for liking a design and wanting to make something similar in their own budget. What's wrong with that?
There is a lot of stealing going on FB these days...its ridiculous how much.

i actually agree with u sara, but i wanted a replica made of a sabyasachi saree and asked for it to look like the proper thing..i didntw ant a cheap subsitute....as the orginal cost $2500...i was quoted $800 for a decent replica...and thats alot of money for me ..im a student....so i can imagine women with families would find it hard....but wat would you spend the 2500 or the 800??? but this argument isnt abt replicas...not for me anyway as i said before people shouldnt be judged if they can afford to wear the big names or not...style isnt bought...
my main concern is as reha put it stealing on fb!!!
If i dare participate in both the discussions i.e. the discussion this thread was for and the discussion regarding original vs replica.
You are right there are people who would put pictures with their watermarks on them - just to clarify that doesn't necessarily imply that its their own work, sometimes its for not using someone else's blog post name etc. Also, putting a watermark of your url on pictures you upload on facebook is also a way to promote your website or facebook page. (An SMM tactic - Doesn't necessarily means its claimed to be their own work)
But
At the same time, I have seen pages who do not sound genuine. I have a few names in my mind but I cannot bash them based on my gut feeling but the way they are marketed there is a fair chance they'll not actually be processing orders. A good idea would be to open a facebook group or a page or something and share experiences.
Original vs Replica - If i was a leading designer charging PKR 500k for a bridal dress, someone who can only afford 50k or 200k for a wedding dress won't be my target market anyway. Sohni had some genuine points too though. Even if that wasn't my target market, I wouldn't want to see a ripoff of the design either. People are still going to do that though. Isn't it that the new singers sing legendary artists singles? Has anyone being successful at that? hardly!! Aren't they going to continue doing that? Definitely!! Some people would still prefer to keep on singing originals. Its just their own personal preference. What gives them satisfaction.
Its easier for small scale businesses to make dresses on orders then to keep inventory. At the same time its easier for customers to see and approve instead of visualizing the color scheme, pattern and design etc. Its not necessarily because they want to show off though. Personally, I'd let the customer know what type of differences are possible. Sometimes they'd mention lower budget and the changes are done accordingly to accommodate that. Sometimes customers are very unreasonable with the budget which can result in low quality replica/ripoff but that's probably another thread =)
