sick and tired!!!! are you???

Re: sick and tired!!! are you???

I find this very funny (not in a funny way either)… several points to note here…

There is a huge difference in a western designer label and a “designer” label from pakistan/india. Western labels are household names and I have seen people walk around with Fake handbags, and as long as it carries a designer logo in big bold letters, they are happy, even if the material, colour is awful! When it comes to pakistani designers, can you honestly say the same prinicpal apply? Is a bride going to say I want my clothes to carry HSY label on it, irrelevant of which back street darzi has stitched it on, and what ever the colour of the outfit, material, kaam is, I dont care as long as it has a HSY label? hmmm probabaly not!!! the “psychology” you refer to doesnt quiet apply in this situation…

Walking around with a fake LV handbag is something I would frown upon because I guess the person is trying to make an impression that they have bought a very expensive handbag, when in reality its a fake!! However if a person likes the shape of the bag, colour, material, handles of the bag etc and like the way it sits on their shoulder/arms and it happens to be inspired by designer piece, is there something really offensive in buying that bag?

Dont forget, western market is sucessful because of their ability to offer replicas/inspired pieces to high street customers at affordable prices. Zara, primark etc are all known for this. Isnt this how the industry operates? You get some “key” designers launching their collections each season and all the buyers/designers flock to their shows to take “inspirations” for their own collections… you see an item on catwalk and not long before you see inspired pieces in stores.

People who can afford designer pieces, buy from versace etc but if they cant afford it and there happens to be a replica in topshop, they’ll buy it from there instead! what is wrong with that? The asian market is following the trend of west, the only difference is, with advancement in technology they can do so from internet i.e. facebook!

if a bride wants to wear a replica of HSY etc, its not to look “cool”, i imagine it would be because they like the design and work on it but no prepared to pay the price, and when such a demand is created, naturally you’ll get suppliers emering to fill that gap in the market…

I am a marketing consultant in my full time job so I know the marketing tactics applied to make brands appear superior and personally I unashamedly never pay the premiums because I cant justify paying double price for a certain label, when there is something simialr for half that price!

so in conclusion… my opinions on buying REPLICAS from asian outfit sellers, is that it is a fair practice.

Re: sick and tired!!!! are you???

oh and back to the topic, claiming someone else's work as yours is completley wrong. They should give credits to the designers.... :) personally if I am buying from someone on facebook who only has 500 friends and only has random pics to show, claiming as their work, I would steer clear of them. Genuine high end designers arent going to sell you over facebook with [EMAIL="aabc@hotmail"]aabc@hotmail adress...

Re: sick and tired!!!! are you???

So much ignorance in this thread. LOL Yeah please tell me the address of New Look or Topshop where they're selling blantent copies of Dolce and Gabbana's S/S 13 collection from piece to piece? I would love to get my hands on some Versace ready to wear that hasn't even seen the light of their boutiques. There is a difference between copying runway trends (i.e pastals, 50 silhouettes, neon colours, minimalism) and hey come to me I am copying this HSY piece from scratch...I'm not copying an element or two for me 'inspiration', its a bloody copy from thread to thread.

Its one of those very rare situations where people living in civlized, legally protected and extremely lawsuit friendly Western societies so loudly and proudly cheer the lawlessness of poor old Pakistan. May this beloved country never modernise when it comes to copyright. I guess only God knows when this country will start respecting its industries and insititutions.

So sad to see bunch of random stay at home housewives exploiting labour (same goes for actual disgners) and totally ripping off someone's else work for profit when the bloody government in this day and age of media and techonolgy, should updating and introducing new copyright laws and creating Art and Fashion schools so those who are gunuinely passionate about fashion can learn to be original and express their originality.

Re: sick and tired!!!! are you???

I can be wrong but I don't see these ladies claiming the designs as their own (at least the very few that I know). I think the watermark on dresses is just to differentiate their quality of work from other vendors making replicas of similar outfit.

Re: sick and tired!!!! are you???

Peacocks copied kate Middleton's blue engagement dress pretty spot on and others produce cheaper inspired version of her outfits. Not everyone can afford it so what's the harm and besides you can buy an item because you like it and making it appear like the real thing isn't the only reason to buy replicas.

Re: sick and tired!!!! are you???

I dunno why some people get so het up about replicas. If you want to buy one, buy it, if you prefer originals, then do so.

Gorsh

Re: sick and tired!!!! are you???

I am so clueless about Pakistani fashions. But designer clothes are important for my in-laws. To fit in with them, my husband asked his SIL to help buy me some Pakistani clothes. Now I have a closet full of designer crap and a deep hole in my pocket.

To each his own. If one feels worthy by wearing designer clothes and can afford them, then by all means wear it. To me, designer clothes do not increase a person's worth. I choose clothes I like, that look nice on me.

Re: sick and tired!!!! are you???

Sameeramalhotra,
Is Zara Mirza the only one you have an issue with? What was your experience that is making you so mad?
