Showing Off Your Bump

Quotation from another thread - Posted by Anchal:

**as for clothes, i was just reading the fashion 2000 review and they have thrown out the loose dresses women have been wearing for yonks when pregnant

In are clothes that show off your bump with style **

In desi society, showing off your bump has never been the thing to do. In fact, quite the opposite has held for ages…hide the bump…camouflage it with baggy clothing…pretend it’s not happening to you.

Are we finally beginning to overcome this taboo?

I don't think i'll ever understand y some lady's hide their bump,

I think it will be a change, but a very gradual one. It'll take decades before our society begins to realize that its not something to hide...Considering the fact that more than 60% of the population in Pakistan still dwells in rural areas, I think this 'fashion' must only be evident in the 'modernized' society which makes up only a small percentage in the population.

Is baggy clothing to hide the bump??? hmmmmmmmmm, I always thought it was for modesty! But then again, beauty is in the eye of beholder, isn't it?

and I always thought it was for comfort due to added body mass.

That's precisely what I am referring to......why is it immodest to show your bump?

I'm not advocating leotards here.......let's keep that much clear....I just wanna know why women are taught to be embarassed about bringing a child into this world.

In my opinion, in our society pregnancy is not discussed openly with any friend or acquaintances. Only close friends & family members talk about its care & problems with the soon to be mother.

Showing off would basically put it out for discussion, comments & questions-which in a Desi family's term will be immodest and inappropriate.

There is no 'embarassment' associated with pregnancy. Just that a blatant (though unwilling) exposure seems odd. Even with baggy clothes, its practically impossible for a woman to hide her pregnancy, so its not about that. Its not as if u cant tell. But again, its not about the pregnancy. Its merely about modesty. Because a pregnant belly will make ur normal clothes look like leotards, whether you intended it or not. And frankly, I dont know why this behavior of being able to 'show off' ur belly is being viewed as 'taboo', and why its acceptance is being hailed as an 'achievement'. Thats silly. We need to learn to differentiate between the two cultures that we adhere to, and we dont always have to take it upon ourselves as a duty to try and merge the two. To me, sorry, but a big belly with tight clothes is an awkward sight.

talking from experience
women already feel a bit down with the whole weightgain, figure losing phase

so wearing thelas makes life more dull

and whats bad in showing off the bump?

lets not talk modesty here
we arent talking bout a pair of boobs

You are pregnant ...Period
why in the world hide it?

display it, be proud of it and dress yourself i pretty clothes that cheer you up

these clothes that I am talking bout come in stretch material so it stretches along with your bump
no restriction to any circulation waghera here

actually the clothes I am talking bout are kinda very elegant
why dont i scan some pics and post them up?

should i ?
i need a yes or no cause i am in no mood of using my scanner for no reason at all

You are pregnant ...Period
why in the world hide it?

Its not hidden, even if someone wants to hide it. And the opposite of hidden is exposed, so u dont want to do that either. Why dump one extreme in favor of another:)

display it, be proud of it and dress yourself i pretty clothes that cheer you up
Thats the other extreme I mentioned above. The display is already there. Anything more would be 'flaunting', wouldnt it? I mean, if the purpose of baggy clothes was to hide a woman's pregnancy and engorged belly, then I must say, baggy clothes do a lousy job, because anyone can tell by one look whether a woman is carrying or not. But to go on the total opposite end and stick it out makes for nothing other than a temptation to poke at it:)

Anchal...use the scanner....I'd like to see.

alrite at the moment i am scanning the ultrasounds for you to figure out

after that the pics

In New York subways, passengers often (almost always) offer seat to pregos. In work environment, one has to dress up nicely, even when one is pregnant. Only a couple of weeks ago, the Governor of Boston delivered a baby. There are zillions of pregnancy stores with all kinds of neat dresses. I am not a woman but I would never want to have a big belly in the dead of summer. Imagine sweating like a pig (literally). I think the nice months to be pregnant are spring and fall. After the birth, there are still lots of dress items that come in handy. My favorite was the flap Bra, that you just open down to expose your titi, as opposed to taking the whole thing out.

No Anchal No, we don’t want any “phat” pictures. :aankhooN pay haath rakhnay wala icon:

Maybe some women hide their bumps out of fear that something will not go well or from superstition. My mother in law was always terrified of my childless women friends when I was pregnant- I guess because she is terribly superstitious!

I had a prof in university who was eight months pregnant at that time but it didn't stop her from coming for lectures...She used to wear very tight clothes...so tight that it almost made it difficult for students to concentrate on the lecture... I remember shaking hands and giving high fives to the un born baby. Some guys didn't attend the lectures cuz they were afraid of the unexpected to happen right in the class room.... the fear was enormous...
Anyway, I just feel women should be considerate about how they dress up when they r pregnant.
Anchal so ur posting pics eh...did u know Demi more shot for play boy when she was pregnant...Not that I am trying to say anything here..
