–Showing off Non-Stop…Is it a Pakistani Tradition above all the traditions?..What is it then,…a person talking normally and all of a sudden you have to duck as their mouth starts moving faster..their eyes widen…and words containing dollar bills/property ladders/educational endeavors..once the debris starts falling…soon you are covered with all the slime that its hard to move…

ok on the serious note…why is it that most times (and ofcourse I am generalizing) ear their hearts on their sleeves…either using like big terminology to prove to the world that they have a…education,at I have seen in Pakistani uncle aunties…oh I have like 2 houses here and 1.5 in the other country and oh we like “Hoteling”……thats such a funny terminology for eating out.But anyway to me I can see through that and seems like someone has low self esteem..and need all this to cover it up…Heck I have low self esteem too:D and now protect yourself guys cuz here comes the the water hydrant is about to open…so duck!!!:D..I better keep the traition alive…Waise seriously do you do it?..now be honest!

Nahi iam not... Wat i noticed is tat those ppl show off alot who are not very weathly and once when Allah do give them something they start gettting proud..but ppl who already have all those facilities don't show off alot.. (there are some exceptions, and it is my opinion u don't have to agree)..

I agree that those may show off more...but then again I have seen well off...from good families etc but they just cant keep ot to themselves they have to say it...and to me its a clear indication that that is all they have to offer..or self esteem issue...its just easing them into this till they really realize what they are doing.Some just do it for the sake of doing it..as they have seen their elders do it.:)..And its a good thing that you dont:)

Yeah that is right, i have seem rich ppl showing off as well but i was talking about majority in western countries..

It all boils down to insecurity. The sad thing is that instead of being happy for the successes of others we are are jealous or try to downplay them.
I can't tell you how many times I've been in a conversation where someone is talking about their son's MBA, walks away, and the person left standing starts telling me all about how that person's daughter dates, failed chemistry, or some other nonsense.
That said, there is no reason to go around telling everyone in the world about the $1 million house you just bought, with a full cost breakdown.

This is so true. Its just that even when some people hear something good about others there facial expreossions change and it becomes their mission to do the character assasination..I mean whats up with us folks?. Can see anyone happy or who are happy cant let others be..have to be a billboard of happiness and advrtise to everyone...sheesh!

Well I don't think its always the case that people are bragging to show off their wealth, to get looked up to or anything. I know 1 person in particular, very laid back guy and goofy/funny in college. Anyways he is making a large happy sum of money...and he doesn't realize it but he does flaunt it. Its not so much to show off..but just cuz he is excited that he is able to drive luxury cars...luxury hotels...etc. I mean he worked hard by himself and opened a consulting company...well initially with few friends, but anyways he was lucky and his business prosperred. He has every right to enjoy it, but he never puts others down or talks in a demeaning tone or anything. I think it varies as to who is doing the talking and how they are talking and what they have to show for it.
As someone else mentioned I know an uncle who also made himself into a businessman over years but is so very humble as is his whole family. If you met them you would have no idea how educated and wealthy this family is, they dont flaunt at all.

Im talking about the ones who do…not the humble ones…not to mention that some times the talking excitedly about some accoplishments can be misunderstood as bragging ..ofcourse that happens too…reminds me of an incidence at a party where this friend of mine(a well off) was talking about the “Prada”..shoes she got from Pakistan…and I was making fun of them saying that I need to borrow em and conveniently take em off at the office so people can see my “PRADO”..shoes…now mind you this is all in jokes…we both and the people around us knew what we were talking about…but there was a group at sitting away thought that we are as I call it"Brand B*****shing"…and were doing gheebat dot com.…
so that is understood…
But again I know some people that are really humble about their achievements and what Allah has given them, and those are the ones that really command respect ..in my eyes:)
