Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

The EDL (English Defence League) will hold a “peaceful” protest in Bradford on Saturday 28 August. I have nothing against that although they are targetting “extremist” Muslims who want shariah in the UK. The whole definition of what an extremist Muslim is put to the test. The EDL are protesting against mosques being built in the UK fro various reasons used to disguise their hatred for Muslims. They dont protest against new religious buildings for other religions of course!

The Bradford protests could go horribly wrong if the more violent EDL protestors clash with the counter-protestors ie United Against Fascism (UAF) and Bradford’s many Muslim youths of Pakistani origin - the latter have a strong gang and drug culture in Bradford.

Of all the months to do it is they chose Ramadan. Lets hope neither side especially the British Asian Bradfordians dont do anything silly that day!

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

Why did they choose Bradford? Don't they remember Southall riots?

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

Oh dear .. not again … EDL and Bradford, this combination is a recipe for disaster

Guys dont travel there on the 28th .. this EDL is no where close to being peaceful!

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

Thanks God I don't live in North. lol

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

I have a question about all this Sharia law stuff--what exactly are the people who want it after? Are they trying to impose it on everyone in the country or do they simply want it to govern themselves? If it's the latter, why does anyone else have a problem with it?

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

The same reason they chose Luton and Birmingham in the past.. they want to provoke a reaction then turn around and say ‘look how violent those Muslims are.’

It’s interesting they now have a few Sikh and Hindu members + speakers yet this still happened:

‘Away from the main demonstration a Hindu Temple was attacked along with shops, restaurants, cars and homes.’

I guess to a lot of them all brown people are the same..

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

Sadly many Muslims will play into their hands.

Many EDL members protest with face covers File:EDL4.jpg - Wikipedia - why on earth are they against the Muslim women wearing burqa?

The EDL to me are far more dangerous than the BNP. The EDL specifically target the Islamification of the UK - they even protest against mosques being built.

Not only Sikh and Hindu members but Jewish too. It is a very dangerous thing when the Jewish are actually associating with the far right. There is a facebook community called EDL Abdul.

Not only that but there is an active global network which EDL members seem to link with to defame Islam. Some of them even read things to find things they view as negative.

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

True , whats even more shameful is that they have a few muslims onboard as well … and they keep putting them forward to media in order to show that we are against the extremist muslims !

however , I do believe they are just another cult and will die their own death … I dont think majority individuals follow them , infact majority sane people dread them ! coz where ever they end up , there is violence … the more they get associated to violence , the better , coz they are literally signing their own death warrant :lifey:

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

Mosques in bradford have pleaded the parents of youngsters to keep them away from the city centre today. I hear the shops and banks are closed and there will be high police presence. We don't want a repeat of what was known as the worst ever riot in uk in 20 years when happened here 2001. Bradford is just getting back on it's feet and the was just getting forgotten about.

Allah please save us from the EDL

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

has it started yet? any news?

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

What another EDL demonstration??
Thank god, i dont live anywhere near Bradford.

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

ok since nobody else going to admit they are from bradistan,i'll give you the lowdown on what happend. i went into bfd and the edl were enclosed within a very tight space with heavy police cordon around them. you could only get a sight of them at the very end of two streets from where they were another 40 meters away, so you couldnt even hear what was being said. it was a well planned and executed police control operation.

pakistanis kept coming and going due to the boring nature of the setup

police blocked out any chance of trouble

so in the end they just stood within a small space and then a few hours later went home!

but on the tv, i did see a few of them (edl) throwing stones, kicking a car blatantly infront of the clear view of the news cameras. i hope this incident is going to be punished by the police in the same way the previous bfd riot sentences were handed out. if this doesnt happen then we know the state condones edl!!

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

thanks for the update … I know what the city had to go through last time with the riots .. and its a sensitive location … what ever happens there , trickles down to the rest of the north west too … I am so glad that police controlled it so well … I am sure EDL must have tried their luck … they arent very shareef you know :hehe:

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

Ahamdulillah there was no trouble involving the asians. The EDLs however did fire missiles at the police and faught amonst themselves. They tried attacking a car which I think had an asian driver, but he/she managed to escape knocking one of the EDL supporters to the ground. Basically EDL did not achieve what they were hoping and had there not been high police presence we would have seen bradford riot round 2.

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

some of the edl did manage to get out of the police cordon looking for pakistanis to fight with. they got near forster square retail park, and took a decent beating. i saw the vid but its been removed without a trace

and apparantly some of the coaches were smashed up on their exit from the city, two heli's flying at that time

all in all it stayed in check

Re: Showdown 28 August - EDL vs Bradistan!

^ This report confirms what you said and this video on You tube.

I really hope that this does not aggravate tension between the white and asian community in Bradford. The Pakistanis should have stayed away from the centre as this really looks bad for the muslim community - we are a religion of peace not violence. I don’t know what the consequences for the rest of the pakistani/asian community will be after this.

  • Five people arrested as police erect barricade

Violence broke out today at a controversial city centre demonstration by far-right group the English Defence League.

EDL supporters threw bottles, cans, stones and three smoke bombs at opponents gathered in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Nearly 100 supporters of the far-right group then climbed over a temporary eight-foot barricade - aimed at keeping them inside the city’s Urban Gardens - to get on to neighbouring waste ground from where they threw missiles at police.

As the skirmishes were breaking out in the gardens, nearly 300 people gathered for an alternative event hosted by Unite Against Fascism/We Are Bradford about half a mile away at the Crown Court Plaza. West Yorkshire Police said five people were arrested. One person was taken to hospital for treatment to a leg injury.

The EDL supporters met in Halifax before travelling to Bradford on buses under police escort for the static demonstration. Members had travelled from many towns and cities across England, including Hull, Merseyside, Manchester, Stoke, Southport, Dudley, Wigan and Stockport.

Only one entrance to the gardens was open and protesters had to pass through metal detectors to gain entry.

The West Yorkshire force received support from neighbouring forces, including Greater Manchester, Northumbria and Humberside. Police said around 700 people had gathered in and around the venue, as a heavy police presence ensured trouble would be kept to a minimum.

Beyond the heavy police guard, opponents of the EDL gathered to hold their own demonstration and the two groups traded insults with each other.

One EDL supporter, a Muslim called Abdul Salaam, 40, from Glasgow, was escorted into the gardens by police under a chorus of shouting from opponents. Unravelling a Glasgow Rangers flag, he asked reporters: 'Why are they against the United Kingdom?

‘Islam doesn’t teach you hatred, it teaches you peace. These people are hypocrites, they are not true Muslims.’ Another EDL member said: ‘It’s not about being white and proud, it’s about being English and proud.’

When trouble flared, police pushed the EDL members away from the edge of the barricade towards the centre of the gardens, while their opponents were moved into neighbouring streets. Then the far-right group held a rally as police in riot gear held their line.
Skirmishes broke out between EDL supporters and their own stewards, who stood in front of the police.

Ahead of today’s demonstrations, events were held yesterday to urge people in the city to unite. Bradford Together organised a peace vigil which took place outside the council offices in Jacobs Well. Bradford Women for Peace also held an event at Ivegate in a show of ‘peace, unity and solidarity’.

The calls for peace came amid fears that today’s demonstrations could have provoked a violent reaction to rival the 2001 Bradford riots, where 191 people were given sentences totalling more than 510 years.

Initially the EDL intended to march in Bradford with a planned protest by Unite Against Fascism on the same day. A high-profile campaign was started to stop the EDL march and a 10,000-signature petition opposing it was handed to the Home Office.

Home Secretary Theresa May was asked to authorise the ban by Bradford Council. It came after West Yorkshire Police’s Chief Constable, Sir Norman Bettison, wrote to the council requesting an order to prohibit any public processions over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said tonight: 'At this stage there has been five arrested as part of the operation. 'Police are currently working to ensure the protesters leave the city and we will continue to have a high-profile presence to reassure the people of Bradford.

‘We thank people for their patience and support so far and we hope to have protesters removed from the city as soon as possible.’
