Foundation should always be the same as your skin tone.
For day to day wear, your foundation should be the same shade as your skin tone.
For parties or events that last a few hours with regular lightning, foundation should be the same as you skin tone with a touch of pressed or translucent powder for longevity.
For weddings with heavy lights and cameras, the make up in itself is very different. The foundation should be the same as your skin tone. Contouring is key and of course, colors and hues used on face are always a shade or two darker and heavier than what you would use normally.
If you are performing on stage, the 'stage make up' is very different from anything else you would wear.
I have worked on stage, with the costume & make up dept., as well as with brides. We never use anything that could lead to look unnatural or caked on.
