Should your foundation be lighter than your skin?

Re: Should your foundation be lighter than your skin?

foundation should match your skin, but it shouldn't male your face look darker than it is either. i use two foundation powders to match my skin color. one that's a tiny bit lighter, and one that's a little darker and more yellow. when i didn't use the lighter foundation, my skin always ended up looking darker than it is actually is. maybe because i have really oily skin..hm

yes because I wasn't sure if that information was accurate so I wanted to get different opinions.

Re: Should your foundation be lighter than your skin?

NO, unless you want to look grey!

It should blend well with your skin. Can be closest to your skin tone. Lighter or darker it does not matter as long as it blends well with your skin shade and does not look artificial. Whatever tone you like to attain for different styles of make up, your dress and the eye shades and blush colors which you are going to use. There is no end.

Re: Should your foundation be lighter than your skin?

I use a shade darker than my skin color.

I have pale arabic skin so it gives me a nice glow.

It all depends on what you want your foundation to do for you :)

With brides I think contouring is the key. The foundation in my opinion should be the same color but you can enchance your features by high lighting ur nose with a lighter shade, and contouring your cheeks with a nice blush, and eye make up should stand out, but foundation should be the same color as ur face.

Foundation should always be the same as your skin tone.

For day to day wear, your foundation should be the same shade as your skin tone.

For parties or events that last a few hours with regular lightning, foundation should be the same as you skin tone with a touch of pressed or translucent powder for longevity.

For weddings with heavy lights and cameras, the make up in itself is very different. The foundation should be the same as your skin tone. Contouring is key and of course, colors and hues used on face are always a shade or two darker and heavier than what you would use normally.

If you are performing on stage, the 'stage make up' is very different from anything else you would wear.

I have worked on stage, with the costume & make up dept., as well as with brides. We never use anything that could lead to look unnatural or caked on.

I have never used foundation but I do know that if you wear a lighter tone to look gori it is a wrong choice coz ppl arent blind. I guess foundation should match the skin, afte all it is used to even out the skin before applying makeup.

Re: Should your foundation be lighter than your skin?

I hate the way pakistani makeup artists do contouring. they leave harsh lines visible. contouring should be subtle.
Desi skin has many shades, so sometimes it good to mix a cpl of shades, a light one and one that matches ur skin tone. use it as you would contour. Also rememeber ur skin is a different shade in winter and summer. when i say lighter i mean a touch lighter. not several so you end up looking grey

I agree with everyone above, foundation is supposed to be an exact match
to your skin.

The whole idea of being pale in asia is something that’s been carried over from the “old days”. It originates from when wealthy people would stay fair not having to work outside opppose to the lower class that would have to work out in fields and get tanned and " dirty ".

The fairness brought a sense of elegance and class which many women wanted to be associated with, thus trying hard to be fair. Thank god mankind evolved and we got our head straight.

What suprises me that even in Bollywood the fair-concept stuck through all the way into beginning of 2000. From what I can recall Deepika Padukone was one of the first actresses to come out in the lime light embracing her complexion as it was. Even* Bipasha* was made fair in earlier movies.

In conclusion - being yourself will always be in fashion.
