But what would be the problem in spending her own personal money on makeup and stuff without asking him?? Not like she’s nicking his money to go off and buy these things..

The ‘hiding’ thing isn’t really right but sounds like he has put her in a difficult position not allowing her to open her own bank account (or see his wallet.. what would be the reason for that)..

Unless the couple is hard up or the wife is spending too lavishly or something I don’t see the problem with her keeping her own money aside to spend on herself, tbh I think it’s better than going to the husband all the time for cash like a child..

I never said don’t spend it, i just said don’t ‘hide’ it and then spend it. There is a difference between the two!
