Should Rumsfeld resign post the Iraqi Prisoner abuse exposé? (MERGED)

I don’t know.

I’ve been thinking (more like getting in arguments) about the idiots at DOD, but I can’t seem to think of anyone that is both capable and (likely to be) willing.

Any ideas?

And just for fun:
Bush Annoyed with Rumsfeld Over Iraq Abuse, Aides Say](Yahoo News: Latest and Breaking News, Headlines, Live Updates, and More)

“The president was not satisfied with the way he was informed with regard to the pictures, and he let Secretary Rumsfeld know about it too,” a senior administration official said. “He believes it’s better to make it known privately instead of pointing fingers.” …

Storming Norman Schwarzkopf, he'd get it in shape. It’s only a short 6 months temporary job anyways then back to retirement.

UTD, are you implying that Bush wont get re-elected in 6 months :D?

I think Pewee Herman can do a better job than any of these bozos.

We’ll see if god really does ‘Bless America’ come election day. :hula:

but but dint God tell Pat Robertson that Bush was gonna win in a “blowout”..how could God be wrong?? :bummer:

Pat hates Islam, Slams Hindus, and wants to nuke the State Department. The day after elections Pat will wake up quoting Nietzsche and for everyone but the extreme right that’s a good thing.

yeah I would even pay to see Kerry and bush go one-on-one in presidential debates :>

Bush Wants Rumsfeld to Stay as Pentagon Chief

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush, who has privately expressed annoyance over Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s handling of the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal, still wants the Pentagon chief to stay in his job, the White House said on Thursday.

Asked at a press briefing whether Bush wanted Rumsfeld to remain as head of the Defense Department, White House press secretary Scott McClellan replied: “Absolutely. The president greatly appreciates the job that Secretary Rumsfeld is doing.”

"Bush Wants Rumsfeld to Stay as Pentagon Chief"

That is usually the "kiss of death" type of statement we see right before axe drops......

Getting rid of Rumsfeld would do more than any apology to Iraqis by Bush. It is the strongest signal that could be sent. At this point he is baggage, and is expendible. Karl Rove is plotting his demise.....

The real question is, will Rumsfeld resign to save Bush? My bet is that he will....

Everyone who leaves the Bush team ends up writing a book about Bushes ineptitude, so maybe he does want him to stay on.

Rummy would write a book to save face, the people who wrote the most damging books were the hold overs from the Clinton era. Rummy is loyal above all, he will go....

:hehe: so true… maybe his hyponotic suggestions wear off after a while.

How about Rudy Giuliani?

Rudy is anti-terrorism, needs national exposure, very credible, politically astute, tough as nails, can cut through the crap of the Pentagon, and is respected by the congress, the press, and by most Republicans.

I don't think Schwarzkopf would work. He was fun on TV the last time around but not many people in the service liked him (with good reason, which I won't get into).. that alone is enough to make him a tough fit, but also I don't think he'd be willing and his appointment could raise more hell politically.. I think it's about time W stops regurgitating Daddy's administration.

But the idea of a strong fmr-general is a good one. Would definitely send the signal that we're serious (if we pick the right guy) about resolving the issue.. but it could also scare people. Frankly I'd feel better with a veteran in charge, but I still have my doubts as to whether they'd recognize their limitations. I dunno.. I was thinking through the list of old vets, but .. ah, hell.. I dunno.

Giuliani? Isn't America burned out on him yet? I don't know what it is but he gives me the creeps, always has. Anyway, if he were to be put in he'd need a damn good group of subordinates.

I don't know lussi, doesn't Allah say that muslims are the most blessed?

Spoon,

Ex Generals are almost always excluded from the Secretary of Defense post because of prior relationships. Historically the position has always gone to a civilian to maintain a separation of powers.

After Rumsfeld America should try to fill the post with a human being.
