Q: Should Pakistan send its troops in Iraq, if the UN approves such a deployment?
A: Yes, but only if Pakistani troops report to non-US commanders
B: Yes, only if other Muslim countries are willing to send their troops too.
C: Of course. No if’s or but’s.
D: No way. Why make our soldiers pay for America’s mistakes.
E: I have no clue what you are talking about
My first reaction is NO WAY!!! Our troops working with/under American troops against Iraqis??!?!! NO way!!!
But then I think maybe for Iraqis it'll be better to see Pakistani troops there rather than amreeki troops...and our troops will also be nicer to the Iraqis...so if some country's troops have to be there either way then its better if our troops r there as atleast they will treat Iraqis nicely...
umm Irem didn't you read in news paper the letter sent by iraqis to pakistani government. They didn't want a muslim troop with americans troop because when we go with america we enter with enemy. And muslims don't want muslims to be their enemy.

I agree that the Iraqis would be appeased by seeing troops from Muslim nations keeping the peace, as opposed to so-called "kafirs". It would certainly seem more "right" to them, based upon thier personal life experience.
But, I humbly take issue with "nicer", irem! The fact that Pakistani or other Musilm troops would share much of the same cultural background might certainly avoid certain misunderstandings - but, "nicer"?
Examples of genuine kindness and concern of individual American soldiers towards Iraqi citizens have been documented in the international press.
Personally, I would welcome Pakistans participation,
I'm inclined to go with D initially. it's a high price to pay for other nation's adventurism. But there are a couple of provisos under which I would be prepared to consider it none of which are up ther on the options.
It should be financially beneficial - and by that I don't mean accepting peanuts for a dangerous job with implications for the world's future.
There should be a massive publicity campaign internationally. the same media coverage could be given to the peacekeepers as was given to the sporadic pro-OBL demonstrators during the invasion of Afghanistan.
I haven't voted yet, if that scenario was to arise then i would vote yes they could go, otherwise it'll be D.
In my opinion, the Pakistani trrops should be sent to Iraq, however, they should not be under U.S. command, we have no problem reporting to the U.N., also other Muslim countries should also participate in the peace keeping operation/ peace bringing operation. I also read some where recently that each U.N. peace keeper is paid around $900.00 per month for there services, in my opinion, these charges are not sufficient enough, hence these should also be increased. Also, Pakistani government should also be given there due share of recognition in the international media, and Pakistan should also be inclded in the future trade list of Iraq, meaning, we should be able to import cheap oil from Iraq for say next 25 years, Pakistan should be able to sign free trade agreement with the current American adminstration controlling Iraq, meaning that all construction material, livestock, and basic everyday stuff will be imported from Pakistan...Any more suggestions are always welcome.
Our military should be kept at home. Sending a whole divisions' strength (i think thats what theyve asked for) would be absolutely wrong. all opinions about Iraqis welcoming Muslims as peace keepsrs instead of US kafirs are worth a thought but let's not forget that the Iraqis are still angry over what has happened and Saddam loyalists still attack the allied forces every other day. The Iraqis know that Pakistan is a US ally at the moment and would be more hostile towards pakistani forces than hospitable. Noticed how Taliban and Afghanis have been attacking border posts on the Pakistan side? thats becaue they know Pakistan is friends with their enemy no. 1! So why waste our precious soldiers, so much of our money, energy on packing up the US mess!?
the fact is that the US forces, when it comes to the individual soldiers' level, are very weak. they lack fighting spirit and motivatin and wars are not won only by firepower, history is proof of that. thay came with all their might to crush Iraq. that they did. But now only months later they are breaking and panicking due tot the deaths of their soldiers caused everyday due to ambushes. That's making them run away and they are finding other ppl to take their places. why should we!?
Very good post Haris! :)
You bring a very good point which is very easily ignored by the peeps.
Pakistan is officially an ally of US and seen as that by the world. Ever since Pakistan supported US in the Afghan war, there have been terrorist attacks inside Pakistan by the taliban/al-qaeda loyalists. Even our soldiers have come under fire from these morons.
Pakistan will be inviting more trouble if it sends troops to Iraq under whatever flag. They will be seen as part of the occupational forces and will provide target practice for the hidden Saddam loyalist.
And lets face it, no country in the world likes to have forces from another country come and dictate them.
I said no. Not because the Pak Army shouldn’t un**** America’s mess, but because:
Though I think it could be done without too much risk.. though I also trust Bush & Co to screw that chance up. But the above is something to think about.
Sending Pak Army to Iraq would absolutely wrong. However, even if Musharraf decides in favour of sending our troops, who is going to oppose him? Do the people of Pakistan have a say? Probably not.
There is no way in hell Pakistan should be sending its troops there!!
How would we feel if one of our soldiers got shot by an Iraqi ( God forbid) or how would Iraqis feel about Pakistan if an Iraqi got shot by our army???
Yesterday, a gentleman visiting from Pak, told me that some maulvi saheb in NWFP has issued a fatwa that any Pak soldier who dies in the line of duty to keep the occupation in Iraq, will not have his Namaz-e-Jinaza legal.
Not sure about the authenticity of the fatwa, but this is just one more indication of the pressures facing this decision.
