as soon as the disaster came , people start saying the scale was so big and it is impossible to reach thoes areas etc etc
but when budget came , it normally goes to only Karachi , lahore, islamabad , queta, peshawar
isn’t it a good idea to divide each province in 3 smaller provinces and that will help in managing easily rather then with these 4 provinces and that will help to develop the country as a whole
whats your point of view, will this help in the development of country or not and will we be able to cover the disaster with this or not
Definitely --- I have always been of the view that 12+ provinces purposely carved out such that they are not drawn along ethnic lines (otherwise we'll have saraeki, potohari etc independence movements) can help reduce disparity in living and social standards in Pakistan. You take an average person from Lahore, and an average person from Mianwali, and the difference in their experiences, exposure, education, income, lifestyle is disturbing. More provinces are needed to enhance a sense of participation and control over their own lives among people who are not living in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. We need to take the American approach of developing multiple governmental, economical and cultural centers instead of putting everything in Lahore, Kararchi and Islamabad.
Also, once the cultural and living standards are roughly on par in various parts of the country, population pressure on big cities will reduce and problems such as doctors, engineers not wanting to go anywhere but Lahore will not exist anymore.
maybe cuz it could be harder to dvide and conquer along ethnic lines once that is done, harder to get votes along ethnic and provincial lines etc etc.
hmm , but even , i havn't seen any welfare organization bringing up this cause
as well
if this is so good then why no one have raised this issue, this is hitting my mind
and how can one raise this issue
I am all for it. In fact, just today Minister for Inter Provincial Co-Ordination also voiced his support for the idea. The govt. is bringing a Provincial Autonomy bill to the assembly in its next session. Should be interesting. I want to see GDP calculations at Province and District level.
I don't agree that the idea isn't being introduced in Pakistan. I visited Pakistan last summer and some circles in the government were actually trying to push the idea forward. However, I was disturbed to see some editorials in Urdu newspapers 'opposing' the moves, for reasons of "ethnic identity." Those fools!
No one can guess what our parliament is going to look like after these elections. Fraudia is right that more provinces don't favor the traditional politicians who assume power based on ethnic and tribal votes. However, politicians have no real control in today's dummy parliament which is why I was hoping that Mushy will get this done through the current parliament, and then have elections. That didn't happen, and I think it'll simply be too difficult for the next parliament. Who wants to give up power?
^ What urdu papers? I guess you must be talking Punjab as a lot of central punjabis are against this idea. Two years back, it was this same idea and this newspaper columnist here decided to make a news series out of it talking about how people of Pakistan were conspiring against “Punjab” and “punjabis”
I still don’t get the hypocracy when NWFP can’t change its name, we still have FCR but oh my god no if punjab is divided when there was the state of bawalpur etc that was separate from punjab. Even many areas of punjab today were part of NWFP.

there are many issues that you dont hear much about, when you dont hear about things like tax cheating by the masses, why would you hear about this.
although the topic has been discussed seriously several times over the last few years and from what i know maybe a few decades ago as well.
do welfare organizations bring up such political topics much? or are they usually focused on their mission ..i mean i cant really expect edhi to talk about number of provinces.

even edhi etc are also working in province captials mostly , i don't know about how they are working in sindh other then karachi
what i was thinking , if there will be given importance to many cities then it will be easy to cover up the disaster areas
even edhi etc are also working in province captials mostly ,
They are working in 'bigger' cities 'mostly' (not only), because the high population density means they can reach far more people, far more often, than if they were to spread out equally throughout the country. The presence of these services is a function of population density (not just population, population density) and not provincial boundaries.
Such g*****ose ideas will only compound our problems. The only solution to all our problems is to introduce the states system as exists in almost all the developing countries. Provincial autonomy will bring an end to the ongoing 'Punjab bashing' sentiments. However those who are grabbing this country since 1947 will never agree to it.
