Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

If there is, she shud. Otherwise its a pretty lame excuse.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

yea but we are talking primary school here, personalities are just being developed, self confidence is being developed, etc etc. would having a headscarf be a positive or a negative for the girl’s.

My view is that it is not needed, not required, so why even go down that path. I am in favor of not having the scarf at primary school level.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

Maddie and you dont know that they are happy. I would be interested in seeing if there are any studies done on this topic.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

My personal view is that it's not obligatory at that age, my issue is with people who start making assumptions about how kids feel based on their own personal view, ignoring the fact that everyone is unique and diverse.

It's just as bad as women in the west who see immigrant or Muslim convert women in stores and feel pity for them and feel that they are being opressed by their men.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

*........Teachers, child psychologists, and other educational experts in primary schools are not in favour of headscarf, and they are facilitating the on going research on this core issue because these girls have low grades in studies and they dont play and participate in other co-curricular activities. We are talking about not an exceptional case but all girls who are wearing head scarf in primary schools,....... *
*A child is a child in primary school no need to wear headscarf.:) *

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

Please read my post again carefully.......its on going not published yet. .......:)

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

okay guys..fast forward...if the study does conclude that there is a strong correlation between primary schhol hijab and low achievement, self image, confidence etc etc, would you then be in favour of legally banning it because it is not a religious mandate, and it will prevent ppl from harming their daughters by forcing them to wear it.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

Speaking coming from a science background, the findings of a study must only be considered when you take into account all external factors. What was the sample size? What are the regions in which the study was done? What was the background of those teachers of child pychologists - do they hold any biases against headscarves?

What would a similar study in one of Britain’s Muslim schools, where all girls are obligated to wear headscarves, find?

A single study on its own must always be tested against similar studies by other research groups to see if a common set of findings arise. One study on its own is rarely conclusive because its findings can be skewed by a number of factors occuring for that study in particular.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

........they send me to visit and teach in 6 primary multicultural schools........the schools where a muslim teacher cannot enter to teach though these have muslim students in them, a british born pk origin secretary told me......."you are the alone muslim teacher allowed to enter to teach in these catholic schools in the history"....... I find above mentioned situation there.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

........interesting thing is that muslim teachers in other schools hold the same opinion as I have mentioned above.......

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

Nonetheless, even Pak born or Pak origin people can hold biases against headscarves. My own mother has a dislike of headscarves and a bias against them, for instance.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

Did they also look into the girls' ethnic backgrounds?

Usually, parents who have newly immigrated from predominantly Muslim countries, like Pkaistan for xample, are alot more reluctant to let their daughters develop socially period.

They are afraid of losing their culture (and religious values) so they go into overdrive, trying to hold on to their values by practically forbidding them from pretty much all non-academic aspects of school life, like playing with kids, extra curricular activities, sports etc, constantly telling them "You're different/special, you're Muslim/a girl/Pakistani so you're not allowed to do this." At least htat was my personal experience growing up, as well as the experience of alot of first-generation american-born/raised Paki kids.

I think when girls are allowed to reach their full potential, develop socially and academically, to live a normal life without compromising religious values, they willl do well whether htey are wearing headscarf or not.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

you'll and shud do the same with ur kids.. a muslim girl should lead life according to sunnat. Its about time we have shariah courts in the west exclusively for muslim expatriates. Muslim kids shudn't do things that are haraam- as simple as that!

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

.........majority of immigrant muslim girls are not wearing headscarves in primary schools suppose if there are 40 muslim grils, **only 4/5 girls are wearing it in each school ........**

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

^ Playing sports, after-school activities, playing wiht other kids, going to movies, shopping isn't haram.

I'll raise my kids how I see fit, not how i SHOULD and WILL according to what you think.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

^kids never turn out the way u envision them. u might end up with a little afridi786, who knows.

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

2nd grade is what…about 7/8 year old girls…and 6th grade is about 12…girls that age being forced to wear abayas and niqaab is just disturbing and sad. I bet majority of these girls don’t even know why they wear it. There’s no religious requirement for it either. My heart goes out to them. :bummer:

Sara, how old are your cousins and are they females? Since their parents are sending them there, does that mean they agree with the school’s rules? What do your cousins think?

Re: Should Head Scarves be banned in Primary Schools?

........these primary girls wearing head scarves, age 5-12 years old, feel stigmatized at school.....
