What makes you think all the marriages from our grandparents/parents generation are successful? Just because they stayed married?
During those times…decades ago…divorce was a major taboo. Women were almost outcasts in society if they chose to end a marriage. In addition, often the women were not educated OR they didn’t have the skills necessary to financially support themselves. Heck even today…MANY women choose to stay in a marriage even though they’re unhappy simply b/c they can’t support themselves financially and/or they’re scared of the backlash of a divorce from their family/community. I don’t think a marriage can be considered “successful” just b/c the two people didn’t get divorced. Staying married doesn’t always equal being happy.
