should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

Why would anyone want to celebrate Christmas? Extra presents?

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

No one knows when he was born. Bible says fall.

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

I wanted to say that lets not use each and every thread about Prophets into Sunnis vs Qadiani discussion.

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

I see how you have no answer for the quranic ayath I quoted and start talking about the "other topic".

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

Christmas is one thing, but I dont see any problem in celebrating the Winter Holidays. Depending upon where you live, you may get vacation time from work and school during end of December. Its a time to relax, to wind up the year, its a chance to visit family and friends, and its a great time to buy and exchange gifts, since the sales can be so great, etc.

I think when desis celebrate Christmas, they're not celebrating the religious aspect of it, but the holiday aspect of it. Like the snowflakes, and the evergreen trees, and year coming to an end, and the cold weather that keeps you wrapped up inside with relatives playing games, and having eggnog and hot cocoa, etc.

Its the cultural aspect of it. I wouldn't expect anyone in Pakistan to really celebrate the holidays because that culture isn't built up there.

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

This thread's about celebrating Christmas and not about the ascension of Isa (AS) to heaven by Allah (SWT). I have removed a few posts and any other such posts would also be removed. Stick to the topic please.

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

Its very interesting about reading these posts, where Muslims are questioning if they should celebrate Christmas. I live in Canada, and I know this year at least the Christians here are even questioning if they should consider Christmas as a religious holiday. If one looks at the history of 25th of December one will see it has nothing to do with Jesus but rather an adoption of a ritual from pre-christianity that was brought by the Romans into the Christianitan faith we know of today. I know there was discussion in the USA as well, but I think religious fever there is strong....

It was weird this year too, that people who have become aware of this did not celebrate in its relgious aspect (ie going to church etc) ...though they still stood in the lines at the malls to get gifts and seasonal deals.

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

Buraaq, even atheists and jewish folks and hindus and buddhists and many other people exchange gifts during the holidays. Just because you hand out candy canes to the co-workers does not make you a bible-thumper celebrating the birth of the baby Jesus and deifying Jesus as God.

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

I personally don't see any harm in celebrating the holidays as a seasonal event.

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

How hard is it to understand? Regardless of its origins or the secular ways in which many people today celebrate it, it has become associated with Christianity, it should be obvious from the nativity scenes, midnight masses and the name itself.

Christmas
Christmas

Christ – Messiah, i.e. Jesus :as:

Mass - The liturgy/celebration of the Eucharist.

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

A lot of so called Christians skip the religious aspect of the holiday simply because they're not Chrisrtian by faith, the vast majority of Christendom (90+ %) are either athiest, agnostic or believe in a Greater Power but not in any religion.

Their reason for not going to midnight mass is not that they've suddenly been enlightened that it is innovation (bid'ah) to do so or anything, they just don't care for their religion, it's just an empty label to most of them. A lot of them seem to be ashmaed of their religion like it's uncool, they don't bother with it all years round, even those who do go to church and/or wear crucifixes crack jokes on their own religion which just goes to show how serious they are, even many of their priests are athiest but their congregations wouldn't let them go. Christianity has become a joke in Christendom itself, the vast bulk of the Church congregation in most areas here is of foreign immigrants such as the Polish, the South African and the Desi Christians, and that's saying something because there's not that many of them here.

Christmas like new year has become an excuse to get pissed out of their heads like drunkards do and then puke their guts out in the loo or in a gutter in the middle of the road and feel like hell the next day.

Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims

Prince of Persia, like anything, the holiday season is what you make of it. Just because some people get drunk doesn’t mean everyone should avoid celebrating the holiday season. In fact, you should go and celebrate it in a nice and family-like way, to set an example to all those silly people that get doped up and drunk on christmas day. :flower2:

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and a Happy New Year to you. Even if you don’t think that’s halaal.

No cheers chuck, you keep those wishes to yourself or save them for somebody who gives a… about those holidays because quite frankly I’m very proud of my own religion and unlike some people here I don’t suffer from inferiority complexes and don’t need to prove myself to anyone by aping everything I see around me. :flower2:
