Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
Well define Celebrate ... if you mean celebration as we muslims celebrate EID then of course muslims dont celebrate Christmas. Nevertheless, the element of respect for christmas is always there ..
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
Prophet(saW) never did such thing and as our example we let the xstians celebrate it no problem but also we do not celebrate it as it has nothing to do with our deen.
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
Christmas is not a celebration of the Birth of Christ. It’s a pagan ritual.
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
We never celebrated Christmas growing up. I knew the songs and liked the spirit of the season, but we didn't exchange presents or any of that sort of thing. My husband's family did, however. They had a tree and everything. He asked if I wanted to have one, and I wasn't particularly excited by the idea, tho I said if it was something he wanted to do I would join in. It's weird -- I didn't want to disrespect the traditions of his family, but at the same time, I felt celebrating Christmas didn't feel right to me, so I couldn't get excited by it. I don't really think it would be "wrong" to have a tree or exchange presents, but it isn't something I am comfortable with.

What a funny thread. ANd sum replies are just ![]()
**NO YOU CANNOT CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS.
It’s a pagan rituals, which the christians themselves know. Tree decorating, house lights, etc etc were all part of the pagan rituals. MUCH before christianity.
When you also celebrate such things, then you are committing shirk.
Its so simple, Common sense people. **
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
Many westerners celebrate Christmas as a winter festival (as it originated). For some it is a totally secular holiday but filled with good stuff like peace, good will toward man, giving, sharing, remembering the less forturnate, food, music, decorations, etc, etc.
If it is not practiced as a religious festival, but for the reasons above, why would it be shirk? Skip the whole 'birth of Jesus' thing and just join the festivities. That's what a lot of westerners do.
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
Shirk because of its pagan origins.
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
Well do Christians celebrate Eid?
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
Isn't shirk associating partners with Allah or holding objects in higher regard than Allah? No need to celebrate Christmas to that extent. That's why I suggested enjoying it as a secular festival. There are many origins of Christmas as celebrated today, most of them cultural. It is possible to enjoy 90% of Christmas traditions without making it a religious experience, unless you want to incorporate your own faith into it.
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
Celeberating christmas can neither boost nor reduce our love for Prophet Essa al salam. As for Christmas, don't go around wishing 'Merry christmas' to every christian you know. Some of them do get offended if you say so.
Thus the greetings! 'Happy holidays'
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
since bookword said that Jesus's status was higher than other prophets in a sense that he AS was born without father AND He AS is the only prophet who has to return to earth?..... << thats what i dont believe cuz i say Jesus AS died a natural death. In one of the verse of Quran it clearly says that Jews were failed to crucify Jesus AS.
IF jesus AS returns to earth bodily , and according to u he AS will become muslim , then how come Quran will still call Him ' prophet of israel ' ???
So , for me birth of jesus was like any other prophet's birth, and He is not going to return to earth bodily from heaven.

WRONG!
He never died. Allah (SWT) ascended Isa (AS).

And because of their saying (in boast), "We killed Messiah 'Îsâ (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), the Messenger of Allâh," – but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but it appeared so to them [the resemblance of 'Îsâ (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man)], and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely, they killed him not *]:

Here’s what I could find:

Another one: Can Muslims Celebrate Christmas?
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
I agree.
I listened to a debate on a radio station the other day where one of the persons complained that people are “taking out” Christ in Christmas and exchanging it with X in X-mas. I would prefer calling it X-mas without the Christ label to it. Christ/X-mas nowadays is more secular than religious and should be celebrated simply as and how you suggested it.
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
After Sadiyah's post. I think this should be locked? Sadiyah's post answered the thread question.
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
its along the lines of celebrating basant, if you do it for cultural and non-religious reasons like semi suggests.
Re: should Christmas be celebrated by Muslims
For those emphasizing it being celebrated as a "cultural thing"
Let me give u an example.
Say your family was at war with your neighbours. Constantly there was fighting. You and your family hated your neighbours. They hated you. Constant conflict.
One day your neighbours killed your whole family except for you. Slaughtered them.
The next day, your neighbours decided to hold that date in honour of their victory over your family. And how they were brutally murdered.
Every year, they celebrated on this day.
You grew up, you got married and had children. Your children had no idea about the conflict that existed.
They saw your neighbours celebrating one day, and they said, whats the harm in us celebrating with them, eating with them, drinking with them, dining with them on this fine day!
So your Kids start celebrating with them too.
And no matter how much you tell them, they just say "oh c'mon dad, we're just having fun. We're just enjoying ourselves in the festivities."
Without knowing what is the history behind such festivities.
This was just an example, imagine instead of the family... they celebrated against your God.
