Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
While they were fighting for the freedom of the entire sub-continent. But they were sikhs and probably would have been against the partition of sub-continent just like most sikhs and hindus.
Also sikhs and hindus killed around 700,000 to 1 million muslims in 1947. So honouring these sikhs as national heros and freedom fighters by pakistanis would be an insult to those million muslims who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan in 1947??
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
I think they should. Granted my knowledge is limited on the subject, but as far as I'm aware they were fighting to get rid of the British. People let this religion stuff go too far. It's all semantics since Indians have the same culture as us anyways. We should feel more allegiance towards fellow desis than Arab countries IMO. A desi political entity like the EU could accomplish so much and to still be fighting over philosophical differences is ignorant.
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
Okay heres my personal view on the matter. Historically speaking men like Udham Singh and Bhagat Singh were very different from each other let alone most Muslims like me… Bhagat Singh was a Modern Thinker and totall Revolutionary activist. Udam Singh was a man full of hate and sought vengeance against the likes of Dyer who were responsible for massacring his people.
I cant imagine relating to the likes of Bhagat Singh becuase while I often jump about with calls for Revolution myself, my ideology is very different to that propagated by Bhagat Singh. Udham Singh and I however could easily relate and Allah forbid but speaking honestly I think inhis shoes I would have strived for the same goal.
Now as for Heroes both are Heroes of History, it doesn’t matter what anyone else believes in my view both died heroicly for the same cause which was to boot out the occupying forces by any means and I think determined people like them are indeed heroes when you compare them with the likes of Shamil Basayev or other so called modern day freedom fighters who hurt thier own people as much as the enemy.
At the end of the day I have deep respect for both men and you have to remember that a lot of Muslims did very simmilar actions but alas they are not as remembered. We should honour all freedom fighters who fight with honour and both these men conducted themselves in a most noble manner for which they deserve to be remembered whatever thier faults.
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
Please leave such stupid and careless sentiments to yourselves. Hate gets you nowhere in life and I am speaking from experience, best way to win arguments and make your point is to keep calm. :roman:
I admit at times even i catch the hate bug… but pointless hate is wrong. Especially if you have no valid reason to hate in the first place… I doubt either of you has ever been exposed to the opposite side anyway otherwise you wouldn’t talk so carelessly.
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
But there is a valid reason to hate hindus.
You seem to have a lot of knowledge about history and international relations so let me ask you a question. Look at the example of israel where palestinians are persecuted by the zionist jews. But you will also find that there are lots of non-zionist jews and even anti-zionist jews who are strongly opposed to israel’s zionist policy of persecution of palestinians.
Now compare that with the kashmir conflict where more than 100,000 muslims have been killed by the indian army in the last 20 years. Yet in real life or internet i have never come across any indian hindu who does not support india’s policy of persecution in kashmir. Even the most liberal indian hindus support their country’s policy on kashmir!!
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
Yaar please dont confuse Religion with Politics.
Hinduism like Islam comes in many forms. Personally I wish all Muslims could be the same and live in harmony with others but as I think Rumi said… We Muslims are great at division we are so great we were the first to split the Atom and thus as you can see there are many interpretations of our faith. Hindus are no different you will see them in many forms and some are as good as us and some are as bad as the worst among us… We have Sufi’s they have Jains, we have Assasins they have Thugs.
With regards to Kashmir you will find that the argument is not only on Religion but more so on Land and Resources. Nationalism is the bigger problem it’s not so much a War between Islam and Hinduis as much as it’s between Pakistan and India. You know theres Hindus who actually agree with me 100% that the state of Kashmir should have belonged to Pakistan by International Law. I think there are many open minded Indians on GS who are not haters of Muslims or Pakistan but who like myself want to understand things better.
When I was probably your age (guessing by the way your posting that your a late Teen?) I was taught all sorts of Nonsense about Indians… essentailly they were the “Enemy” they were different to us they deserved to be beaten…etc.
But When the time came for the real battle guess who let me and my brothers down… Yep the very same Military and Political institutions of Paksitan who to put it bluntly used us. Indians may well hate us but they are our neighbours and in 1999 The Indian commanders recognised our Men for what they were, we fought superbly and they treated us with great honour. We fought well but in the end they could have over-run us easily since our own side abandoned us. I have a deep respect for a lot of Indians who are no different to us when you get down to things.
Soldiers are taught to lose the “human” inside them, Paksitani, Indian and even the Americans and British have Soldiers that are utterly ruthless and will not pause to think before they shoot a Child or even a Woman without mercy… However not all Soldiers are like that and not all Indians or Paksitanis are either… I believe the nastiest of these people will in time meet a nasty end but the majority can be changed by Human kindness and a mutual effort for peace.
When you really get down to it theres very little difference between us and theres more in common than you think. I understand what your saying becuase it often looks very different in the Media but Media and Politicians are one thing… Go out on the ground and you will see things are very different.
I am lucky in my life that I can call a very many people on the opposite side of No Mans Land as friends.
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
And all Hindus hate Islam and Muslims !!!!!
That's a stupid statement.Hinduism advocates love and harmony.I am a Hindu and my close friend is a Muslim.I have lots of Muslim friends and I am an ardent believer of Khwaja of Ajmer.(the great). Muslims are our brothers and we hold nothing against them.
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
Agreed. I don’t get why people have to stir up hate and intolerance. And I would totally support closer ties between India and Pakistan and I have no idea why the hate exists. Some people in power must be profiting from the fighting, that’s my view on it.
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
Get over it, it's been years. Islam teaches us to love everyone, even if our faith is not the same (Example: the Prophet (s.a.w)'s love for his uncle who was NOT muslim)
Re: Should bhagat singh and udham singh be respected by pakistanis?
I don't hate india. I hate hinduism and hindus
And all Hindus hate Islam and Muslims !!!!!

I dont know who these two are but generally speaking ANYONE and EVERYONE who deserves respect, needs to be respected irrespective of what country/religion they belong to.
