Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
I think from now on Shoaib Malik or any Pakistani captain should say, thanks to all the muslims around the world who prayed for us. Sounds great. let whoever take it out of the context as they want.

Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
What is the need for using the world muslim? didn't hindus, christians of paksitan prayed for their win?
he should have use the word pakistani and all the fans all over the world.
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
Reminds me of Bangladesh's captain Ashraful's comments after a match against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh were throroughly outclassed in the match by Murlitharan's bowling.
In the presentation ceremony...Ashraful said.."I thank Murli for his good bowling". He meant to commend Murli's bowling, one would think.
I don't know why these guys cannot speak in the own mother tongue instead of making an ass of themselves in front of millions of people. Like today for example, Ravi Shastri can speak Hindi..Malik could have communicated to him in Urdu. I remember Rashid Latif doing so when speaking to Shastri after a closely fought final with India in Dhaka. Shastri asked him a question in English, Latif replied in Urdu...Shastri started speaking to him in Hindi/Urdu that point onwards.
Some tennis players, even some Miss World/Universe contestants prefer to answer questions in their mother tongue. How difficult is it to find a translator if at all required.

^^lol
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
In near future, it may be Bangladesh vs Pakistan final and that too on a Ramadan day, even then a Pak cap will give such comments? I wonder? Sports should be kept away from religion.
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
I think there is no point in people praying for success of a team in sports. It is just sports and nothing else.

You are right, why involve God in everything.
Then we should say why involve God at work place.
Why involove God in everyday things.
Why involve God in anything !!!!!!!!!! See where we going ....ASTAKH FIRRULLAH...GOD FORGIVE ME..
Why we keep forgetting religion is a part of our live and where we will end up?
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
Then we should quit sports. There is no room for sports in Islam.
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
he might have been thinking something in his mind like "kahi ghar jaakar sir par olle na pare" so he started buttering Pakistani Muslims otherwise he could have said "thanks to all fans who supported us" m i right bacho? :p
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)

Re: R P Singh - A vastly improved bowler
Some1, do not make a big issue out of nothing…..your typical chankiya antics…..while commenting on an issue, it is always worthwhile to keep things in perspective…. Holy month Ramadan is in its full flow and every Muslim, no matter how irreligious he is, tends to start thinking spiritually in this month (call it our emotional immaturity or whatever but this is a fact). If you have 170 million Muslims in your country (which you guys keep talking about all the time), you should be aware of this factor.
Shoaib had just suffered a big blow and he was fully aware how emotionally Pakistanis were praying to win this match (and I am sure Indians were doing the same back home). He felt from bottom of his heart that in this holy month he had let down his fellow countrymen who were praying so hard for the team and hence he ended up making that comment. In his mind he was addressing pakistanis all over the world who were emotionally involved and of course we have 98% of muslims in pakistan. But to accuse him of taking “religiosity to the next level” is plain idiocy and you know it very well.
And what are you trying to convey by making this political statement:
"And that Pakistan is not the sole custodian of all Muslims in the world"
A totally unwanted statement for no obvious reason.
Makes sense.
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
hey ravage, i agree with your earlier post about it being tough luck for India if Indian Muslims get targetted. I think the other posters are talking bs. In my house in India, my neighbors are muslim, infact we are surrounded by muslims and we are all good friends. Most of India is literate, and they know, but i guess there are some idiots there as well who might take advantage by i doubt it. But i dont think we should look into that too much.
About the post i quoted, why would Indian fans criticize Irfan Pathan for saying Mashallah? Some of the biggest icons in India are muslims. And maybe you need to understand what Malik said (i think it was a mistake). He thanked muslims all over the **world **for their support which is not the same as Irfan Pathan saying Mashallah before his interview. Hope you understand.
the irfan pathan reference was regarding queer criticizing "first of all thanks Allah", mashallah is more or less an arabic version of that.
i understand what he said was a misstatement, which however made sense to a pakistani audience in the context of ramzan. something that can happen no matter how good your english is when youre on stage after a big match. its only a serious misstatement when you start attributing all these BS political reasons like the earlier posters did and which they dont seem interested in defending now.
otherwise its just a bunch of desies gathering around making fun of another desi's english. typical brown nosing inferiority complex riddled mentality where any mistake in english is immediately a character flaw. same mentality where salman butt is the VC just cause he can speak english well.
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...
not apologize but clarify and set the record straight. no need to apologize, he obviously misspoke
I do not know. I think as per him, he did not say anything wrong; may be he does believe in that (ummah etc). And probably it wont even matter to any one in Pakistan as well.
But as an Indian, his comment did hurt me, does not matter if I am a hindu or a muslim, because that's not how I would like an Indian to think. I do not know how I would act if I was watching him speak with my Indian muslim friends. What does he think of Irfan Pathan winning the match for India. If I am not wrong, he married an Indian girl, right?? What would she think? No matter what his personal opinion is, he should have shown some sense before making that statement.
Anyways, I like that guy and would like to give the benefit of doubt to him.
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
I think we have discussed this before in respect of Inzi
Personally I think a quick bismillah and thank you is all the captain should say and the main discussion should really focus more on the game, what went right, what went wrong, what he could have done different etc. plus a word of appreciation for your opposing team/players, commiserations etc. always looks nice & proper and endears you to the audience and viewers
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
Yeah it was probably because of Ramadhan, anticipating same kind of prayers as 1992 WC final.
But after match ceremony is not the place to say such things. Malk saab, you need to learn few lessons from Inzi's issues.
Re: Shoaib Maliks comments...(MERGED)
Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and Rameez Raja are sure tough acts to follow but Shoaib Malik does n't need to look anywhere-else but to his own team-mate Misbah-ul-Haq to learn the art of interviewing. I am actually quite impressed with the way Misbah conducts himself (both on and off the field) and speaks intelligently during interviews. It's a shame that we discovered this talent so late because he seems to possess all the ingredients required to be a good captain - He's cool, personable, polite and intelligent. That's all that is expected of the captain of a national team. Even the over-hyped Salman Butt who claims to have gone to a Beacon School (some in Pakistan pronounce it as bacon as they don't know the difference between the two words!) gets all emotional sometimes during interviews and is just about passable. Not all beacon schools in Pakistan are of the same standard.

but that a simple miscommunication error is creating hindu-muslim riots in india
