Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

I loved it back home. My eldest bhabi used to make it. Have not eaten it for ages.
Please share some tried and tested recipes.

I have experimented with one from some desi channel , it will be ready in a couple of days. I will report the recipe and as to how it turned out.

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

Our neighbour use to serve it with their haleem! That was really yummy. I do not know the recipe but I think its very simple one.

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

Yes the one I used from tv show which was on youtube is pretty simple. I cannot wait to see how it turns out. still two more days before it will be ready for consumption. It has been rainy and cloudy for next two days , this achar needs sun for pickling. :naraz:

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

I'll try to get the recipe tomorrow morning but what I can recall from the memory the ingredients were shaljam, mirch, raye, salt and water (not sure about sirka).

Here in London we had a 10 days of summer with temp going up to 23 but now the winter and clouds are back and its extremely cold - going to minus tonight again.

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

I did not add gajar because it is my first try.

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

You are spot on on the recipe , yes there is no sirka. The pickling in sun process converts it into sirka anyway.

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

Our neighbour used to serve it and It was indeed a combination!

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

as per title of your thread…shaljam ka achaar PAANI meN? :hmmm: … paanii meN achaar saR nahiiN jaayegaa? u mean tel meN?

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

Ha-a zalim toh na pee hee nahi.
You are right , it will go bad if you use tap water that is why they advise to boil the water before adding it to achar and since I live in US and can get distilled water , I used that. Also this achar needs to be consumed in a week otherwise it starts to go bad in taste.:

Here I used this recipe:

Why don't you ask your Bhabi? Sorry if this is offensive question. Unlike the recipes from the source if possible.

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

I got our neighbours recipe - they do not put it in the sun, instead they boil it and then add lal mirch, raye (kut kar), salt and ginger garlic paste and keep it for another day to be consumed in the next two days!

Re: Shlajam ka pani wala achar.

My nani makes the mooosst ahh-mazing shaljam achar ever. And she makes two kinds. One is a little sweet and one is salty/sour. Let me know if you want the recipes. This recipe has been in our family for generations.
