The situatation Mumbai makes a little sense, but why all Maharashtra is closed and will be closed tomorrow? There might be shortage of ration in many areas.
The party is well established in all of maharashtra...
and shiv sena is powerful enough ..so its better to keep shops closed....
though after bal thakre shiv sena will not be the same again...

He was a powerful personality in Mumbai, who can fit into his shoes now?
Mere Bhai, Any dynamic leader who will preach religious or, linguistic hatred will become popular and powerful too. Now his nephew Raj Thackrey can inherit his political legacy because he is a better instigator of hatred than Bal Thackrey's own son, Uddhav.

All I waned to point out you came very quickly for gentle support for Thackerey but were vicious and adamantly bad mouthing Zia on his death. 
Not going to discuss Zia further here.

As for his death, he wasn't a big fan of Pakistan so couldn't really care less. We need to take care of our own Bal thackeryes inside our country eating it from inside.

Totally agree. I do not see Udhav holding onto the legacy.

As for his death, he wasn't a big fan of Pakistan so couldn't really care less. We need to take care of our own **Bal thackeryes **inside our country eating it from inside.

Spot on. During the late 60s and early 70s the Shiv Sena used to intimidate folks from the South. Recently the target was Biharis in addition to targeting religious minorities.

MUMBAI: Police on Sunday arrested a 21-year-old girl for questioning the total shutdown in the city for Bal Thackeray’s funeral on her Facebookaccount.
Another girl who ‘liked’ the comment was also arrested.
The duo were booked under Section 295 (a) of the IPC (for hurting religious sentiments ) and Section 64 (a) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Though the girl withdrew her comment and apologized, a mob of some 2,000Shiv Sena workers attacked and ransacked her uncle’s orthopaedic clinic at Palghar, north of Mumbai.
Both the girls have been released on bail within hours, according to media reports.
The 21-year-old arrested for her Facebook post was among many who aired opinions on social networking sites.
“Her comment said people like Thackeray are born and die daily and one should not observe a ‘bandh’ (city shutdown) for that,” Police Inspector Uttam Sonawane told the Mumbai Mirror.
Despite widespread concerns, there were no reports of unrest in Mumbai itself on the day of Bal Thackeray’s crematon.
In recent months, the country has shown sensitivity to criticism of its politicians, sparking criticism in turn from freedom of speech campaigners.
In September, campaigners were outraged by the arrest in Mumbai on charges of sedition of a cartoonist for his anti-corruption drawings. The charges were later dropped

Story has it that he was bypassed for promotion by a South Indian. That was when he decided to let go of his job and form a movement against South Indians. If my understanding is correct, he had formed an alliance with Muslim League in the late 70s. His hatred for the muslims came later.
