MUMBAI: Indian Hindu extremist group Shiv Sena’s chief Bal Thackeray, who is ailing for sometime, has died on Saturday aged 86, one of his doctors said.**
Thackeray, the founder and president of the hardline Shiv Sena (Tiger Army) party rose to prominence with his fiery rhetoric against immigration in India’s richest city.
Thackeray, who was admitted into a central Mumbai hospital in July, died of cardio-respiratory arrest at his home, the doctor, Jalil Parker, said.
Throughout his political career Thackeray was a powerful, rabble-rousing orator who routinely sanctioned the use of violence to propagate his political views. He was arrested at least twice for his for inflammatory speeches and writing.
His extreme regional and religious parochialism led him to advocate Hindu suicide bombers and planting bombs in Muslim neighborhoods to “protect the nation and all Hindus.”
His followers often attacked and rampaged through the offices of media houses that he claimed were anti-Maharashtrian and anti-Hindu and threatened to dig up cricket pitches ahead of matches between largely Hindu India and its Muslim-majority neighbor Pakistan.
Only remorse one can have for him is that this man did not get a chance to repent (no evidence for him to repent) before dying.

there was continuous coverage of his funeral procession from 9 am till now.....
today every single shop in my village was closed...and maharashtra will remain closed tomorrow too.....:(

The situatation Mumbai makes a little sense, but why all Maharashtra is closed and will be closed tomorrow? There might be shortage of ration in many areas.
