How many Shia are there in the world?
Many people mistakenly think that Muslims are divided into two halves: Sunnis and Shi'it. In reality Shia are between 7.5% to 11%. All the rest (93.5%) are Sunnis . The word Shia includes all kinds of Shi'it Sects such as (Twelvers Imami Rafidi Shia, Isma'ili Shia, Alawi (Nusairi) Shia, Druze Shia, Zaidi Shia).
The first statistic was all taken from the British Encyclopedia for the year 1997. However, we feel that it has some incorrect numbers for some countries such as Iran. Their number is compared to the total number of Muslims which is 1,482,596,925
Country Name Total Population Percentage of Shia Number of Shia Sect
Afghanistan 22,664,136 ** 15%** 3,399,620 Imami
Azerbaijan 7,676,953 75% 5,757,715 Imami

Total 11.0% 163,601,094
This statistic was all taken from many independent sources for the year 1999. It is more accurate than the previous one. Country Name Total Population Percentage of Muslims Number of Muslims Percentage of Shia to Muslims Number of Shia

how ignorant some people are..
Azadari of Imam Hussain hasnt started recently..we are the lover of Ahlebait..shia’s arent the only ones who love Ahlebait..anyways there is no point arguing with u
u can love ur munafiq sahabas and we will love the Ahlebait
.....*munafiq sahabas *.....
Sheraaz yaar, isn't it too general. I am sure shias don't call all sahabas munafiq because sahabas include people who have seen prophet (pbuh) i.e. Hazrat Ali (ra) and Hazrat Imam Hussain (ra) and so on.
ignorant? that would include you as well…
ahlebait ka naaara lagatey ho… aur kaam sheytaano jesey… theek hei bhai.

Most of prophet's close companions including four caliphs were not present at that time and it was a time of chaos. People did resisted in favour of Hazrat Imam Hussain (ra) but it was a battle mainly between a government and people who stood against that government. Most people were not happy with the government like you know how the situation is like in our country people hate the governments but not all have the guts to stop them what they are doing.
To answer your question, those 90 % percent were not favouring the government but were rather supportive of Haque (i.e. Hazrat Imam Hussain) at that time.

people
My fellow shias don't take this the wrong way but the purpose of this post was just an inquiry. No they are not trying to find any faults within us.
If you think the intention of the poster is to show how meagre the percentage of shias is amongst muslims than know this:
Quality is more important than quantity.
After all didn't Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him and his family) defeat the unbelievers with an army of 313 vs 2000 something.
As muslims we should not jump to conclusions about other muslim brothers and sisters.
We should find more reasons to unite us than to divide us.
I am pretty sure that tyhe original poster was making an honest inquiry about us.
wasalamun-alaikum-wa-rahmatullahi-wa-barakatu
nyce...a simplepost turned into another retarded insane arguement
keep it up
latahhzzzzz
khan sahab its better to discuss things with u then some jaahil
with munafiqs u know which personalities i am talking about..Imams are from Prophets family..they have the blood of Prophet running in them..shia basically means the follower of Imam Ali
khan sahab i was going through virtues of Imam Ali in sahi book and i read this hadith " O Ali! You hold in relation to me the same position as Harun held in relation to Musa except that there will be no prophet after me"
At Ghadeer Kum Prophet said it will be Ali after me..doesnt that hadith make sense? but after Prophet the munafiqs come forward..now u know the meaning of munafiq
on 10th when everyone got killed..Imam Hussain asked..hai koi jo meri madad ko aaye?? it wasnt because Imam Hussain was afraid of yazeed..but to see if there is anyone who would die for Islam..but no one came forward..these were all so called muslims..we dont think these are ordinary people..follower of yazid were far more then the follower of Imam Hussain
to say sunnis are better because they consist of 90% the muslims..its totally retarded
Let's not get into this sectanariasm war.
The sad fact is that Sunni's will accuse the Shi'ites for cursing the Sahaaba's, which unfortunately some do, as some responses in the forum are classic examples, and the Shi'ites curse the Sunni's for not showing as much love for the Al Beit ( family of the prophet).
One of the most important socio-political issues in life is that of leadership, its quality, authority and method of appointment. The Qur'aan and the prophetic teachings emphasize obediance to Allah,His Prophet and the upright'people of authority'.
No muslim disagrees with this.
It is only with the method legitimizing a 'person of authority' that the differences occur and around which the Sunni and Shi'ite theologies diverge. During early centuries of Islam, the terms Sunni and Shi'ite meant different things at different times. It was not until at least the 11th and 12th centuries that the current pattern of usage stabilised.
Ironically, when all the differences are taken together, they are no greater(and in many cases even fewer) than those that exist between the various Sunni schools of thought themselves.
Confrontation between these two reached a peak during the Safavid and Ottoman Empires.
However, the last 2 centuries, have seen great efforts made by prominent Ulama to bring Sunni's and Shi'ites together by encouraging rational dialogue and mutual understanding in place of the poularised emotion that has often been roused by external enemies to divide Islam.
The success or failure of these rapprochements has depended to a large extent on the private attitudes and political expediences of the rulers on both sides.
It is important to note, however, that the love of the Prophet and his household, and reverance for them as greatly saintly beings, is felt throughout Muslim societies everywhere, regardless of 'sect'. To this day, the ability to trace one's ancestry to the Prophet carries a great prestige among all Muslims, rich and poor alike.
No matter which so called'sect' we belong to, we will never ever be able to sacrifice and replace the positions of that of the Sahaaba. This is quite clearly mentioned in the Qur'aan.
So, if anyone hasn't anything positive to say about each other, then don't say anything at all!
Guys ..
Please .. I asked a simple question and I did not want you guys to start all this. Everyone has their own beliefs and we should respect it. Please, STOP this right now and do not reply to this post.
thanks,
Jafry.

Dear Sheraz you said...
" O Ali! You hold in relation to me the same position as Harun held in relation to Musa except that there will be no prophet after me"
I don't know why you interpret Hadiths wrongly....Prophet(peace be upon him and his family) said this to Hadrat Ali(Radi allah anhu)when he went to Fight the battle of Tabook.....This was a temporary order didn't mean that Hadrat Ali (Radi Allah anhu)Will be the Caliph afterwards......As Hadra Moosa said this to Hadrat Haroon when he went to Toor Mountain....after coming back again He was the Leader of Bani Israel......Got it
And you said.......
At Ghadeer Kum Prophet said it will be Ali after me..doesnt that hadith make sense? but after Prophet the munafiqs come forward..now u know the meaning of munafiq....
Again you express your funny belief...you r calling Hadrat Abu Bakr, Hadrat Umar and Hadrat Usman(Radi Allah anhum) the Munafiqs......While these are the great great Sehabas......You say you love Hadrat Ali but you are insulting those personalities who were the loving ones of Hadrat Ali(Radi Allah anhu) and he loved them more than any other person.....he never fought with them to win Caliphship......You are actually Insulting Hadrat Ali(Radi Allah anhu)
