Some may brand it offtopic, but its not surely one.
Dawah activities have suddenly hotted up in India for past few years. Various arguments are given in support to dawah. I remember one question and answer session of Dr. Zakir Naik where one hindu asked him what could be the way of universal brotherhood. Dr Saab immidiately replied that worship one GOD only and it will lead to universal brotherhood, than he kept on convincing the gathering that how Islam is the only true religion and how ALLAH wants whole universe to become muslim, how vedas predicted abot the holy prophet (saw),. He threw some mocking question towqrds hindus in regard to idol worshispping and having multiple gods.
Now whenever I see such sectarian debates or whenever I happen to join a shia majlis or any sunni iztima............I couldnt help laughing over hollow claims of muslims and likes of Dr. Naik who claims that Islam is religion of universal brotherhood, peace and tolrence. The palpable hatred among sects of muslims is enough rebutall to these claims.
How true when they say that ALLAH's lathi is be-awaaz,but when it hits, it hits hard.
May better sense prevail.
Peace to U all.
first you have to read histry of both religion, they are seprate relgion not ummah.

Well, I maybe not that expert in sunni or shia history, but I have read quiet a bit about them and have personally attended scores of majalis and Iztimas with my muslim friends of both sects. All I could make out is that speakers from both sects have only one agenda in their mind.........malign the other sect.
What I wanted to point out in my post is that how fractured the Islamic community has become over the time. Those, whom ALLAH has warned againt beind divided, have been divided into neumrous sects. And still their moulvis or imams keep parroting that Islam is the only way of universal brotherhood and islam is religion of peace. Greatest living paradox on earth they have created in the name of Islam. How sad indeed.
It is with great regret that i say, what you have said is right. It is seemingly a paradox but if we muslims unite and learn to accept differences then the world can see the true face of Islam and how it is in actuality a peaceful religion which promotes live and let live policy.

Alijan.. i would advice you watch your mouth before you start uttering words withouth thinking anything.... Please answer if there is any variaiton between the two in the fundementals below:
Don't we all believe in the same Quran.
Don't we all perform fast in the month of ramzan.
Don't we all perform Hajj
Don't we all believe in the same Prophet P.B.U.H. and believe him to be the last Prophet.
If we all are different than why did Prophet mentioned in his hadith .. that we will be divided in different sects...
Did he say different religons?
Please I would advice you when you talk about religion ... please watch what are you saying.. a number of people read this forum and you would rather not want to be responsible for misleading anyone.. because you'll have to answer on the day of judgment.
