Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

I am really interested in listening to what accounts of this tragedy lead to conflict. I don't want to argue about it. I only want to know some of those accounts.
And please don't tell me that shias kill sunni children and and then throw their blood on alams. :\

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

Not at all. I meant historical difference about the reasons behind Karbala tragedy. You can find many conflicting threads in Religion forum on this topic and we really discourage such discussions which only create hatred.

PS: I don't believe in these rubbish things (throwing blood on alams, etc) and other mythological things spread by some groups against the others.

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

As far as sunnis are concerned, vast majority does consider Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) to be on the right path and Yazid digressing from it. There is a group amongst sunnis who revere him, and these days we can see them killing shias through out the country.

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

Do you think Deobandi / Wahabi treat Yazid as a hero?

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

^ I dont think all deobandis consider him as a hero, its a small minority that forms the core of extremist elements that are present in SSP/ASWJ/LEJ and Jundullah type parties.

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

Is there any material available where they call yazid their hero?

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

The equation is pretty simple, on the one side was a powerful ruler and on the other side an unarmed group of people. Imam Hussain (RA) the grand son of the prophet (Sallalahu alaihi wa aalihi wassalam), who the prophet proclaimed would be the leader of the youth in heavens. The way the family was martyred is in front of every one, even then if some one wants to make Yazid a hero he's welcome.

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

I have had friends who were a bit stricter in that aspect and they start giving benefit of doubt to Yazid which is the first step. The second is to consider him a hero, maybe to counter the "tabbara" that they believe shias do for the other companions. Better to stay away from all of this. :)

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

There are bordeline cases on both sides. One of my Shia friend refers Ameer Muawiya as 'yazeed ka jo baap tha na'. Yes better to be away from this. We should not fight for 1400 years old conflict in short.

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

Zakir naik

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

What ever but I'd never name my son Muawiya either. You'd note that no one from Sunnis takes the name of Yazid, and even Muawiya. Some LEJ/AWSJ people I have seen with the name Muawiya.

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

summary please.

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

^ In short he is giving Yazid a benefit of doubt. Isnt your proxy working now? :)

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

Muawiya is common name in Arab world. I know some people personally with this name. Even Yazid remained common name in Arabs. Ba-Yazid Bastami (Abu Yazid Bastami) is a famous Persian Sufi

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

Ok, have to access through Ultrasoft. BTW, even historians like Tibri gave benefit of doubts to Yazid :)

Re: Shia Sunni relations in the subcontinent

I have never seen a person by the name of Muawiya, some names of LEJ people that have come up have the name.
