Sheikh Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML Q

Well, when you make deals with corrupt lotas, this is what happens…
Oppurtunist parasites that these PMLQ lotas are, they have decided to jump ship and swim towards the PPP and PML N… I guess they know which way the winds are blowing…

Hopefully this will continue… Sheik Rashid is stil confined to his home as PML N and PPP supporters obviously, greatly outnumber his own!

RAWALPINDI, Jan 4: Over 300 local government representatives belonging to Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) on Friday refused to attend a meeting convened by former railway minister Sheikh Rashid to chalk out strategy for electioneering.

Mr Rashid had invited the public representatives of NA-55, 56—councillors, nazims, naib nazims and lady councillors—to devise campaign strategy in the backdrop of the tragic assassination of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Benazir Bhutto.

A host of journalists from print and electronic media were also invited by Mr Rashid. He was anticipating that the meeting would be attended by the elected representatives, which would give an impression that he (Sheikh Rashid) still enjoyed majority votebank in both constituencies.

However, only 25 to 30 members most of them councillors turned up at the meeting to the embarrassment of Mr Rashid. They told the former minister in the presence of mediapersons that the rest of their colleagues had not only refused to attend the meeting but had also withdrawn their support to him.

Rawal Town headed by Sheikh Rashid’s nephew Shafique consists of 46 union councils with each council represented by 11 councillors, a naib nazim and nazim.

Most of the elected representatives (about 470) are affiliated with PML-Q. However, the refusal by them to honour the invitation of the former minister not only stunned Mr Rashid but also the town nazim Sheikh Rashid Shafique when some councillors told the minister that the rest of their colleagues had rebelled against him.

The minister apparently advised the councillors to avoid interaction with the media; however, a councillor from Dhoke Ratta on condition of anonymity told some reporters that his other colleagues would join another political party within few days.

Nazim Satellite Town Imran Hayat when contacted told Dawn on Friday that about 70 per cent of the PML-Q elected representatives had either switched over to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) or Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) due to their differences with the ideology of King Party.

Sheikh Rashid while talking to media said most of the elected representatives could not attend the meeting because of their personal engagements. He claimed that he would sweep the election from both the constituencies. He said his rivals were using the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto as a tool for their election campaign.

Meanwhile, the candidates of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) are scared of starting election campaign in areas dominated by the supporters of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has been confined to his Lal Haveli after the tragic Liaqat Bagh incident, while his Haveli has been surrounded thrice by the angry supporters of both PPP and PML-N who had tried to set the building on fire.

Mr Rashid has not dared to visit the inner city areas as part of his election campaign as he is more vulnerable to be attacked by the opponents.

A close aide of the PML-Q candidate told Dawn on Thursday that the former minister had been advised by the police officials to restrict his election campaign to his residence for at least two weeks in order to avoid reaction from the angry supporters of PPP.

Buhat achey, I really hope Sheeda loses, but then again we all knwo what type of elections these are...

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

Sheik saab is confined to his Lal Haveli b/c people want his head. I was talking to one of my fried who lives very close to his house, and he told me that Sheik Rashid is pretty much under house arrest for his own safety. :D

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

I'd love to see these 'lotas' be w/out a party atleast for this term. I seriously hope PPP and PML (N) refuse to accept these folks. They could easily add a + to their vote bank by announcing that they're not dealing with ex-mush party members. Peoples emotions as they are, will gladly vote for them just for that reason alone, in addition to all else.

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

bohat niklay mere armaan phir bhi kum niklay.

Now be ready to hear corruption charges against nazims and co. There is a lot of corruption that will unearth in the next setup if Musharraf regime is toppled. US already is concerned over the $Billions they gave to Pakistan in last 7 years to the country. They estimated only fraction is spent over the war against terror and for the people. So despite of record development plans announced and completed during last several years, there would be a 'controlled corruption' that has happened. So there is a little difference remain between Nawaz, Zardari and Qleague's angels. Just wait!

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

True, I was just thinking about it, all these lotaz now jumping ships back to the PML[N] and PPP from the PML[Q lota league]... whether they should be taken back or not. Q league has the worst sell out lotaz who immediately left the PPP in hopes to get monthly 'paychecks' from Musharraf, and now that Lota league's future looks very bleak, they are tryin to get back into their old parties.

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

Yeah, but I would like to see these guys abandon the PML Q in droves... It would weaken the Q's and make it that much more difficult to find support... Not accepting them would force them to stick with the Q's.

So I think they should be accepted for the sake of crsuhing the asspirations of the PML Q as a whole...:)

Once the PML Q lose, these lotas should be thrown out on the street.

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

Oh yeah definently... I mean consider the fact that Nwaz and Bhutto, at their worst still had opposition to deal with and there were always those who would try and expose them...

Musharaf, having controled all media and not allowing any dissent, doesnt have to worry about his dirty laundry being aired for anyone to see.

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

yea that's right Pak Patriot...he's controlling the media. He's done a good job controlling the 75 channels he created in Pakistan...i mean, telling the media not to cause anarchy, not to promote those who promote anarchy, and not to show the dead bodies of civilians and beheaded soldiers is reaaaally controlling the media.

I mean, I've never seen anyone critisize him, or even curse at him on live tv. And his program Awan E Sadar where he answers questions every week for an hour...must be a figment of my imagination. Perhaps I dreamt it.

I'm with you Pak Patriot, I think we should go back to the media back as it was before Musharraf...i'm sorry by the media, I meant PTV.

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

75 channels? Hath hola rakho! Btw, in the 00s, there was a media surge, both india, pakistan, bangladesh got alot of private investors who realized it will be feasible to start channels, its not like mushy offered money out of his own corrupt pockets to start these channels so stop this 'oh mai gaawd but uncle mush start 7500 channulz'!

Didnt you see the banning of GEO making news headlines around the world? A news channel shut down by the govt, pathetic! I m sure you were very proud at that instant.

As for his awan-e-sadr is concerned, he might as well appear on top of a donkey or ride a tricycle, who in the world watches his Musharrafnama or crap like that anymore.

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

very well said :biggthumb
but whats the point in explaing something to some people blinded from the facts, its like argueing with a brick wall, we all know the facts so dnt waste you time arguing with them.

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

Even Afghanistan which has been in civil war for over 30 years has 2 dozen tv channels and about 5 million cell phone users. Does Mushrraf gets credit for that too?

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked… Counsilors abandon PML q

God Bless Afghanistan. God Bless Karzai. Long may the development of Afghanistan continue. :k:

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

Dude, he doesnt allow independant new analysis.. The Media werent creating anarchy, they were just reporting it and commenting on it... That is their right. Its about time we got the perspective of people who dont work for the govt. And they never promoted anyone who creates anarachy, thats all open to debate.. The media is only their to report...
If Musharaf has a problem then he should have taken it to the Supreme Court and forced the media to regulate itself, not call an emergency...

You see even Mushu has to follow the law.

So no, despite your holier then thou attitude, you still dont know what your talking about.

Re: Sheik Rashid Shocked... Counsilors abandon PML q

These Mush supporters dont seem to realize, that the real issue is not that these news channels exist or that they were accused...

The issue here is that, assuming the media was in the wrong, instead of resorting to the legal method of oversight, the Mush govt resorted to illegal and criminal means to silence the media...

If Mush and his supporters realized that even at the worst of times, there still has to be rule of law, then the Media would be taken to court and allowed to challenege the govt and PEMRA. The govt and PEMRA on their part would present their case to the judge, and the judge would ultimately decide who is at fault.

And if the media are found guilty, they wouldnt have police thugs ramming down their door, breaking or stealing equipment! A warning or a suspension would do or a huge fine...
But istead the dictator dicided to shut them down, without a trial and through the use of brute force... Thats the crime here.
