Anybody have any tips for a smooth and relatively painless shave? Maybe im not using the right technique but the bottom part of my neck has roughened up so much that it hurts like crazy to run a razor over it.
And whats the verdict on all the different kinds of razors out there? I’ve always use Schick’s double blade razors. Never really tried a Mach 3.. wondering if its any better?
Have contemplated many a times to switch to electric shavers but never really went out and bought one. Is it worth it to make the switch?
OK Cheghum listen and learn.
1. Use a shaving Gel...preferably Gillete's tough beard gel.
2. Use Mach 3...its awesome.
3. Use hot water to soften the beard.
4. After applying the Gel, wait for at least a minute...trust me you want to do that.
Electric shavers...I am not to keen about those, I tried panasonic's wet and dry shaver, I did not like it. Too much electromagentic force near my head, too much vibration.
You may have been shaving 'against the grain' (ulta) so to speak, and that would harden the skin. I always shave in a downward motion. You should try that too, though if the skin is already hardened it won't significantly lessen the pain, plus the shave is not as clean.
I have moved from Gilette's Mach 3 to Shtick's Quattro (4 blade razor) a while ago. Its nicer, IMO. Try it.
See if it helps to shave AFTER you have taken the shower. Shower softens the skin a lot. Its a heck of a difference.
I have not used electric razors. Fraudia switched to them a while ago (or atleast he had a thread in Bazaar about Norelco). Check from him.
used'em, didnt liked'em... switched to sensor excel of gilette, used it for longest time, then switched to mache series, mache 3's GeFORCE was a good one, i still use it.. for the part of the neck that u mentioned, yeah thats KIND of tricky.. shaving AFTER a shower with gilette gel is the only solution i found.. (for khajoorain waghaira atleast)
havent tried that quatro one faisal mentioned yet..
Gillette gel after a warm shower (where you actually wet your face) with mach 3 seems to work best for me. See which of the gels work the best for you and use that.
I don’t like the gel. After I put it on my face and shave, then I have to wash several times to get the gel off. I’ve switched back to the foam.
It also depends after how long you are going to shave. I shave after 3-4 days and the hair are pretty thick, no problem when shaving. However, if I shave every other day, then it hurts. Another thing is that I shave against the grain but it doesn’t hurt that much. I use the Mach 3 and after shaving against the grain with a Mach 3, the face gets really smooth and then I take a shower that softens the skin, making my skin a lot smoother
I never had any problem shaving with two blade razor, Although I am shaving from early teenage. waisy some ppl have hard skin and thick facial hairs so may be it is better for them
I would also suggest Mach 3 Turbo. It comes with Aloe/Vit E lubricating strip, microfins(to smooth down the skin). The blades for this series are pivoted to glide along the contours of your face/neck/chin. Very comfortable shave. Try it with Gillette gel (sensitive skin).
I also have an electric shaver, but use it on days when Im basically lazy or weekends when I hate to shave but the metal film is not all that friendly for the facial skin.
If you dont have a lot of facial hair, try shaving on alternate days.
Also, shave after the shower not before as the steam and warm water smoothes your skin for an easier shave afterewards.
umm okay listen kids.
i,ve shaving since i was,, i dunno 7 or something....
go with the grain not against it, it wont make u any chikna, u,ll just end up looking like a khusra. cheegum... below the chin , on the neck, go with the grain,,, top to bottom.
the dont shave for 4, 5 days, and then just use a new sharp razor n shave with the grain, n stay that way.
i,ve used mach3... schick's 3 blade one...
sorry but I still reckon sensor excel is the best one, I,ve gone back to it again. taking a hot shower before shaving also helps. Stretching ur skin with the fingers before shaving that area gives u a closer shave.
Chee I am not sure what you mean you have to wash several times, but sometimes these gels have some healers in them that dont need to washed off cause they help the skin heal. That is, you dont need neccessarily to feel that your skin is completely stripped of everything (its like putting cream/moisturizer). Doesnt mean you dont need to wash your face, but may be what you feel is supposed to be that way.
Maddy: Noxema shaving foam with Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E... is that what you use on the foot :p? I will have to try it since i have always found foams to less lubricating and more abrasive

HMCQ, it's definately less lubricating, I cannot deny that. But it's the effect on skin after a week of use that I like - your skin does feel healthier.
Hey guys... do you shave only with the grain or do you go against it too? I can never get that "smooth as a baby's butt" feel without going against the grain...
