Sharif Brother's Disqualified!!!

well...there are many people in punjab and parts of nwfp who support nawaz sharif...thats a fact if one likes it or not...he is a political reality which no one can deny...tayyab erdogan of turkey was also banned by turkish supreme court; but the orders were put aside by the national assembly when his party won the parliamentary elections...therefore the political career of sharifs' has been boosted by this decision...

as far as five years of zardari are concerned...lets see???

Re: Sharif Brother's Disqualified!!!

We have a political stalemate situation in Pakistan now.

CJ Iftikhar was sacked because he started calling ISI and establishment people into the court in connection with the ‘missing persons’ case.

The military would not want him reinstated because he would restart the process. If he delves into the unconstitutional orders by Musharraf, not only mushi but current army top brass might be in trouble. It is not very difficult to find unlawful acts by a former ISI chief since ISI is there to circumvent normal legal process in the first place.

Zardari cannot reinstate Ifti cuz he himself would be in trouble AND lose establishment’s backing.

Top brass of military does not like Nawaz.

USA doesn’t want Nawaz near the corridors of power.

Nawaz is seen as representing one province.

Nawaz cannot openly criticize establishment. He cannot cut off from PPP. He does not want to relate himself to Zardari! Karay tau kya karay!

Nawaz has massive support from areas (Lahore and Rawalpindi) which are also critical bases for military.

It is obvious that Gailani and some other PPP leaders did not like the decision but have to go with the party decisions.

We have Taliban up there.

We have USA military presence next door…. rather with their head stuck inside the door.

We have India looking greedily, merrily from the other side.

We have nuclear weapons out there somewhere!

Allah Pakistan ki khair karay.

KK I disagree with you. I don't think army has anything to do with all this although I do agree that army will be the ultimate beneficiary of all this scenario. Army can not afford to align themselves with Zardari to become even more unpopular. I don't think army would be least bit concerned if Pervaiz Musharraf is put to trial as they have now no interest in a person who was responsible for their disgrace and unpopularity.

Zardari was banking on basically the notion that he will sell the theory that he has nothing to do with the decision as it was taken by judiciary. Nobody has bought the theory and everybody including the people who have no love for Sharifs believe that Zardari manupilated the decision. I think Zardari's calculation this time has back fired and knowing his personality I think he will soon retreat and start damage control by initially firing Salman Taseer. He is just a power hungary guy who lived in his wife's shadow for a long time often disgraced by his own wife. He is out there trying to prove that he is a macho man who can do things on his own but now acting so desperately that he has become his own biggest enemy. The ultimate stupidity will be to use state machinery and media curbs like Musharraf did do tackle his opposition. Army will disassociate themselves from Zardari more quickly than Zardari can imagine in the later scenario to avoid becoming even more unpopular. This time I think his allies like MQM and ANP would leave him as they can not afford to become unpopular as MQM became by standing with Musharraf during all his stupidities who like Zardari was his own biggest enemy.

That's a news for me. Thanks for enlightening the lesser intelligent at the forum. BTW their generally anti MQM stand creates this impression, however don't forget that the publication group has suffered a lot due to Ghundagardi of MQM over the years. The owner of the group was forced to shift to Lahore and now resides in Dubai after his father was abducted by MQM ghundas several years ago...

I will agree with Yazdi..............And Kakaballi, if he retires then field is open for people like Zardari and Rehman Malik.

I do believe that things will get a lot worse politically because Zardari has everything to loose. He cannot get into power again, he knows it and this is his only chance. If there are elections PPP has no Bhutto factor and has lost a lot of it appeal with what has been a loyal support base. So there needs to be a lot of agitation for someone i.e. Army or outside forces to step in and force him to give up power. To avoid it he has been to some extent and will more and more act like Musharraf did in his last days.

Re: Sharif Brother's Disqualified!!!

ever since zardari came in power..seems like our country "pakistan" got put back 10 years behind again! Soo much corruption, it's insane. No hope in sight.

But I think MQM should be banned for killing 25,000 inocents people from 1986-2009 and ruining the whole generation of youth in this era and Altaf Hussain should be brought to court of Justice , No

Mostar Jee ,You said the same thing in previous years that

  1. Lahore welcoming procession of Chief Justice Iftikhar on 5th May,2007 would do nothing and you saw what happened !

  2. Musharraf cannot be removed by lawyers , lawyers are anarchists and terrorists but you know he is now playing Golf !

  3. NS cannot return to Pakistan just a month before electiobns he came and his party turned the tables in Punjab and NA.

I dont know when you will come out of this Punjab and Nawaz bashing and will remain sided with terrorist organization jsut because you are born and brought up in Karachi but still Muhajir and millions of Karacvhites and Hydrabadies are still Muhajirs , ist a joke ? :rotfl:

Although I have no personal liking for Sharifs but they are a political reality, and BTW 58% of country’s population resides in Punjab.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/27/world/asia/27pstan.html?ref=world

According to a poll taken in October and released in December by the International Republican Institute, a Washington-based outfit affiliated with the Republican Party, Mr. Sharif’s approval ratings outstripped Mr. Zardari’s by large margins.

When asked who they would prefer to have as president, 59 percent of the respondents said they preferred Mr. Sharif, and 19 percent said they preferred Mr. Zardari.

The poll was taken among 3,500 people between Oct. 15 and Oct. 30 in the four provinces of Pakistan, according to Robert Varsalone, the manager of the survey. The margin of error was 1.66 percentage points, he said.

I was just wondering what will be the latest approval rating when a new survey is released for Mr. Zardari. We know he has atleast one supporter, but I doubt he will better his last 19%…more likely figure will be 10%.

Anyway Musharraf continued despite having even lower ratings. He had to leave because of his own stupidities. Although there is a general consensus in the country that Zardari should complete his term for the survival of democracy, but like Aitzaz said nobody can help a guy who is determined to axe his own feet…

Please don’t get personal. BTW Mostar has never supported MQM. Although he is against single handed bashing of MQM and I think he is right.

We go by articles here, or according to you and firenze we'd be thinking theres nothing happening in the country

Why should he retire or keep quiet. The Punjab Govt was their right based on how they did in the elections and this whole thing was politically motivated.

Re: Sharif Brother’s Disqualified!!!

Police fired tear gas and rounded up protesters in Islamabad Friday, with the nuclear-armed nation in turmoil since a court banned the top opposition leader from contesting elections. The cabinet met to discuss the crisis and paramilitaries went on alert for potential trouble, one day after the country’s marked the biggest protests yet against President Asif Ali Zardari, who took office last September. Protesters are heeding a call from former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, whose party is the second largest in the country, to rise up after the Supreme Court Wednesday barred him and his brother from holding public office. Zardari and Nawaz Sharif are at loggerheads over the future of the country, a key US ally in the fight against Taliban and Al-Qaeda militancy which has been teetering under financial crisis, Islamist extremism and weak government.

Nawaz Shareef has become voice of 160 million people of Pakistan. Defiant and not to bow to foreign power. May Allah give him victory and save him from the evil eyes.

Nawaz Shareef qadam berhao......Pakistan Aap Kay sath Hay. His struggle against musharraf and zardari reminds me of the epic struggle of Imaam Hussein who rose against the cruel ruler of his time

Good, in that case you will find this article interesting.

DAWN.COM | ? Sindh | Widespread protest over torching of Benazir portraits

No one is questioning the fact that PML(N) has representation all over country or not. Of course they have supporters all over the country, BUT is their reaction to this situation is proportional to what we see in Punjab & Fedral area? The answer is NO.

PML(N) Sindh President Ghous Ali Shah had to go to Karachi press club to stage a demonstration like Pakistan Steel’s workers union’s leader! “ARTICLE” which is worrying in a sense that PML (N) portrays an image of being the most popular party in the country, and any party like that should be able to gather a decent sized demonstration in the largest city. ANP and even Sipah-e-sahab can gather more people than that.
