Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
**TMI warning!! But really need advice. Appreciate it.
WHO**: Wife was 24 and Husband was 26
HOW LONG HAVE TTC: almost 7 years
FERTILITY ISSUE: Wife had check up, her eggs and ovulation results were good. Husband sperm count was ok. However, wife body mass index was very low so was asked to put on some weight, periods were regular. She had check up down below - like a pap smear test & camera to check, nurse said tubes etc were ok. However, it wasnt a smooth check up bcoz the nurse was being rough with the speculum, it hurt real bad. Gyne suggested a laproscopy to check if tubes are blocked or not.
However, this decision was the last appointment in 2009. Wife knew shes fine, its just husbands sperm cannot get past her cervix anymore as hes putting on weight, variuos positions tried. but didnt wanto experience anymore of that speculum pain it traumatised her. Couple decided to pray more & try naturally for 3 more years without going through all that lap procedure.
Wento GP, he suggested husband to lose weight first of all. and advised wife to avoid stress.
Now, after so long, family are pressurising them to try IVF or IUI procedure, even go abroad for it, nevertheless as inlaws want a grandchild.
Couple are unhappy becoz of the pressure, the Husband is putting on so much weight coz of the stress, doesnt care how important it is & there is very little support for the wife as she cannot share her feelings with anyone. Both are working full-time which adds to the stress of it all. But she really wants a baby before she hits her thirties.
Husband says go to GP again to be referred to see gyne instead of wasting time..but....
Can anyone advise if these IUI or IVF procedure were painful/unbearable? Plz help.
Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
hi, IVF pain is not unbearable, they usually put you into a light sedation before egg collection or embryo transfer. But if you really want babies, be prepared to take the pain, you'll inshaAllah be in labour one day, then what?
From personal experience blood tests hurt more!
Dunno about IUI though, haven't tried that, maybe the others here can advise better on that.
btw, i've seen huge men have babies.. being fat can sometimes decrease sperm quality and quantity but never heard of being fat stops the sperm getting past the cervix.
Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
fulllstop - the RE (doctor) would be the best person to advise you on what to do. Usually couples try at least 3-6 rounds of IUIs before they move to IVF/ICSI.
And all pain is bearable. Just think of the end results :)
Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
Thank you for the much needed advice guys, have made an appointment with GP on monday so will discuss further.
i assume they will send us back to hospital fertility clinic to get the bloodwork etc checked again as its been so long.
Will keep you updated.
Plz keep us in your prayers.
Thanx
Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
TMI warning>
Hi, just had my results letter from clinic today, any gynaecologists out there who can explain to me what this means and whats the next step i shud take.
''Early follicular phase FSH of 4.8 confirms an adequate oocyte reserve and a progesterone of 52, that she ovulates nicely. Her husbands seminal analysis with a density of 28million/ml, 43% grades I and II motility, 11% normal forms, yielding 85million progressively motile sperm in the entire sample.''
The next step they've advised is laproscopy procedure to check if my tubes are open or not, to be done under general anasthetic as i couldnt tolerate the pain when they used speculum/fibre optic camera to check condition down below.
i just feel really nervous, anyone else had this lap procedure done and what are the risks involved?
Any guidance will be highly appreciated, Thanx.
Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
Mashallah, that's great fullstop :)
You're FSH is at a good number, the higher the number is, the more issues you might encounter. Hubby's results look good too.
I've had a lap - nothing to worry about. You'll in and out in an hour or two. The lap results came out clear and did not have any pain after the procedure. Just threw up a lot (because of the anesthetic). Just make sure you take off a day or two to rest. You'll get a scar on your belly button, but no big deal.
It's great that your clinic is doing all they could. :)
May we hear good news soon, Inshallah.
P.S - I'm not a doc, just know a lot about this :)
Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!

Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
A friend of mine has been trying to conceive for over 8 years. She has been on metformin, clomid, done IUI, and even had a failed IVF treatment. For about the last year she has just been on metformin (Im not sure what dosage).
She went to the doctor 2 weeks ago for a throat infection, and the doctor noticed her heartbeat was quite high, so she sent her to get blood tests done.
3 days later the doctors office called her and told her her test was positive. She thought they were talking about a positive infection in her throat, but then the nurse said no, your hcg is positive. She still didnt know what she meant, she asked what she was talking about, and then the nurse said "you are pregnant" (Alhamdulillah). She is 8 weeks pregnant now, after trying everything for 8 years (MashAllah). This was a surprise pregnancy.
So, have faith in Allah, because He will answer your prayers.
Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!

Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
WHO: Wife is 28 and Husband is 31
HOW LONG HAVE TTC: almost 9 years
FERTILITY ISSUE: Husband - severe Azoospermnia (very low level of sperm in semen). Wife - no issues
TREATMENT: ICSI/IVF Treatment. The sperm was collected by biopsies on a weekly basis for about 6 months leading up to the ICSI/IVF. Onyl 1-2 sperm samples was collected during each biopsy.
RESULTS: The first ICSI/IVF treatment resulted in a negative test. The next one was done a couple of months later which resulted in a positive test. Alhumdulillah the wife is now 11 weeks pregnant :)
EXTRA EFFORTS: Prayer. The family had a special gathering just prior to the second ICSI/IVF in which Ayatul Kareema was recited over 100,000 times. Additional prayers and mannats were done as well. The wife did have one accupuncture session right before her egg retrieval.

To check if your tubes are open - they should do a simple dye test. It's unconformable but not painful. I would advise not to have the laproscopy done BEFORE you know that there is an issue with the tubes. It's a minor surgery but there is no need for it unless the dr. know that they need to fix the tubes.
I had the tube dye test done which showed a kinked tubed due to adhesions. The laproscopy was done to remove the adhesions and once the tube was in original position, I was able to conceive the following month.
Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
I will start with my own experience here...**
WHO: *Me (27) Husband 33*
**HOW LONG HAVE TTC: 1 year 1 month
Family History: My both brothers have children but husband's side, no children in the family. His elder brother have been married for 23 years and second older brother was for 5 years and no success. Eldest brother in law tried IVF two times when his wife was already in her late 30s but one time had a miscarriage in her 3rd month and second time body didnt accept the embryo. Even though they implanted three embryos. So i felt a lot of pressure on me from the day 1 of marriage. Inlaws are great but are desperate to have grand children.
**FERTILITY ISSUE: I was okay but hubby has low sperm count issue.
**TREATMENT: Hubby tried three cycle of clomid but instead of helping his count go up, it actually decreased by 300% in 6 months. Was completely shattered and thought we lost all the hope. So doctor immediately suggested us to go for IVF/ICSI and also to store sperm samples in the bank for future children. He thought he may run out on all the sperm he has at this rate.
**RESULTS: Started IVF procedure after consulting with 5 different IVF clinics in NYC. Finally chose the one that give us better budget and has very good reputation in the city.
Chose Dr. Vincent Brandeis to get me started with medication and got us ready for embryo transfer day. Charged $2000 for monitoring. Medicine costs us another $2000
And Then went to CNY Fertility clinic, Albany NY (one of the best fertility clinic in NY) to do egg collection and embryo transfer. They are the best facility in NY and has much higher success rate than other clinic. Charged $3000 for the transfer.
**EXTRA EFFORTS: I have been to 5 other fertility clinic before choosing this one and spend over $3000 for consultation. Then I did acupuncture right after embryo transfer. Then spend a night at a hotel with me barely moving from the bed. hubby called my sister in law over to take care of me and the house. She stayed for a week after the embryo transfer. so basically i was pretty much on bed rest for a week. Also after embryo transfer i ate pineapple with a core for 5 days because it helps implantation.
After egg collection: 14 eggs were retrieved, 12 survived before combining with a sperm. 6 embryo fertilized and only 3 survived for a 5 day transfer. Implant 2 better looking embryo and froze one.
Alhamullillah Today I am 20 weeks pregnant with gender ultrasound due on saturday. :))
Re: Share Stories of Successful Fertility Treatments!
Congrats PP... did any of your brother-in-laws get checked for chromosome problem or genetics?
Thnx fatso and ks09
I don't know if they have done it but we did it and it was part of the procedure....I think success rate is much higher for someone less than 30.
Just keep us in your prayers. Along with $10,000 cash we are still paying insurance for all the blood work that was done. It's crazy... I already told my hubby that after this baby we are trying another one in few months. I wanna take full advantage of my age. If Allah bless me with a boy this time then I will go for another ivf but if I get a girl then next time inshallah will go for ivf with pgd option. That way we can have select a gender and complete the family. :)
