we still do that, when my parents go to Pakistan, they bring back few ajraks and handmade home decor stuff with sindhi touch.
guests always loved them! 
also, mom often get asked to make Sindhi biryani when guest would come over.
when we used to go our village, they give you handmade rilis, ajrak or handmade tunics. I still have a small handmade pouch with lots of embroidery and mirrors on it.
so now i want biryani!
