From what i have been told Sharara is two legged like wide palazzo pants (for a lack of better comparison). This was pointed out when i saw the Pakistani drama Umrao Jaan (2004) and the clothes of the earlier episodes were done by Bunto Kazmi. So i asked my dado what that wide legged pajama type things were that were worn under the peshwaz's and she said that is a true sharara.
A lehnga is a skirt.
A gharara is a sharara with gathers at the knee.
I could be wrong but dado seemed very sure :)

hmmmmm sooraj i think dado is right. i've seen a lot of lenghas advertised as shararas which annoys me. i think real shararas are quite hard to find. also do u think they would suit a tall slim person? (ahem..me!) i've seen shorter girls wear em and they look great - i dont want to look like a lamp post!

BollyDiva i know what you mean. Another pet peeve is that on a lot of indian sites they call lehngas with long kameez's Laacha- where as if im not wrong in Pakistan in punjab a laacha is a ladies lungi!!!

I really like this one that Preity wore in Veer Zaara. My bhaabis cousin got married last month and she wore an exact replica of this outfit on the baraat. I was a bit unsure beforehand because I think lengha’s are better for the baraat as they’re more feminine compared to shararas but this bride looked stunning!!!
