Sharara and gharara pics

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

I dunno if this qualifies as a sharara but I think its beautiful - great fusion of colours!

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

i like preity and soha's they are cute! man its really cheap for $429 i like it!

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

I LOVEEEE the lilac/yellow one - i think contrasting colours for kurta and pants look best on shararas so they individually stand out.

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

Ghagara is a skirt with pleats, while lehnga will be more A-line

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

Lacha is from the punjab and a straight skirt, like Kajol wore in DWDLJ mehndi song..

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

wow, thats really nice.

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

Oh I loved that, it’s by Karma…so so so wanted something like this but dont have the hips for it.

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

The co-designer of Karma (Maheen) wore that exact dress on her wedding about 2-3 years back. It's interesting that she's willing to share the design with everyone else. BTW, it did look good on her :)

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

Sooraj, thank you for the info about the difference. I get annoyed when people use lehnga and sharara interchangeably. I always thought that shararas were the wide pants–it make sense to me since ghararas are also pants, but with gathers. (Sharara, gharara sound the same, right?) I know that lehngas are bias-cut skirts. Ghagras are the fuller, gathered skirts (think gypsy).

And my #1 pet peeve is also how Indians “bighar” the laacha. To them, it’s simply a lehnga with a long shirt. A “chaniya choli” is a short kamiz with a lehnga. But I used to have a laacha when I was younger, and it was kind of like a dhoti-skirt combo with a long slit in the middle. And you had to wear a churidar under it. It’s kind of similar in look to what Preity Zinta wore in Veer Zara for the Lodi dance.

BTW, what websites is everyone pulling their pictures from? So many pretty clothes…

If you like that one, you’ll probably also like this:

it’s one of my favorites.

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

Gharara is with two painchas like pants or shalwars, the pants are divided into two parts, the top one is straight which is then attached to the bottom one at the knee wihch flares up into gathers.

Shahara is with one paincha like skirt but its two piece meaning that its got a belt which then attaches to the gathers.

Laacha is a wraparound skirt, fancy ones with tussels to tie the skirt, kinda like a sarong

Lengha is like a skirt but more straight, not much gather.

Ghagra is like a skirt with gathers, lots of gathers.

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

Wow Sahar that one is nice too...

Re: Sharara and gharara pics

Thats a common misconception.

Shararas are lehengas with a gathered, ruched joint at the knee, from where it flares out like a trumpet skirt:

Ghararas are shararas that have been split into pants:

The loose, trailing pants (with so much gher you had to carry the extra fabric on one arm) that they used to wear in Lucknow, and which you see in Umrao Jaan, are called Farshi Payjamas. They essentially look almost identical to farshi ghararas:

Re: Sharara and gharara pics
