There more important things to worry about than if someone’s eyebrows are plucked or not.
Look at how we pray namaz? We think about worldly stuff when we are giving 5 minutes of our busy schedule to God. Don’t you think that needs improvement? Don’t you think that needs some attention, don’t you think that is a BIG problem? The moment we stand for Namaz, we remember which drama we didn’t watch, and what time it will come on and which bill we have to pay and bs like that. I think that is more important issue and more depressing issue than this.
Same goes for all the other fundamentals of Islam… it doesn’t have to be this complicated and hard.
I think, this thread should be locked before it escalates into further display of absurdity and stupidity by some of the naive members.
This hadees and one quranic verse are quoted for prohibition of eyebrow plucking .
‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “Allaah has cursed the woman who does tattoos and the one who has them done, the woman who plucks eyebrows (al-naamisah) and the one who has it done (al-mutanammisah), and the one who files her teeth for the purpose of beauty, altering the creation of Allaah.”
(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5931; Muslim, 2125
Quranic verse about the altering the creation of Allah is being used in wrong context here. If plucking the eyebrow is altering the creation of Allah.
Then removing the pubic hair is also altering the creation of allah and shaving the mustache is also altering the creation of Allah.
Look at the following hadees from Bukhari Shareef in which we are being ordered to trim the moustache. We get our hair cut is that not altering the creation of Allah ?
And it was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Umar said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say: “Be different from the mushrikeen: let your beards grow and trim your moustaches.”
(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5892; Muslim, 259)
So this logic makes this hadees from Bukhari weak. I will post the Quranic verse later.
Now don't get me wrong. I am not a munkir a hadees. Hadees is a strong pillar of our riligion.
Bukhari is supposed to be most authentic hadees book. But it has so many hadees which contradict each other and quran and sunnah. These two hadees are example of that. I do not invalidate all of Bukhari's hadees. If I do that then I will not be able to Pray namaz because I will not know how to make wuzu and how to pray namaz although namaz is a farz according to Quran.
That being said then why I am refuting sahih hadees from Bukahri ?
Because my study of Islam tells me it is very pure very gentle and very liberal religion. But based on hadees it has been turned into a very strict , narrow minded and very aggresive religion. These two hadees are an example of it.
Because the very noble people who were collecting noble hadees of our holy prophet(sal lal lah hu ala hay wasalam ) had only one criteria for examining the hadith namely source , they declared a hadees sahi if it had complete chain of narration. They did not examine the content of the hadees.
Everybody knows that there were munafaqeen in every period of Islam what if the manafaqeen created hadees with complete chain of narration with fake content ? There are scholars in these days who are examining hadees in this light also.
Yusuf Ali:
[004:119] "I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by God." Whoever, forsaking God, takes satan for a friend, hath of a surety suffered a loss that is manifest.
Transliteration:
[004:119] Walaodillannahum walaomanniyannahum walaamurannahum falayubattikunna athana al-anAAami walaamurannahum falayughayyirunna khalqa Allahi waman yattakhithi alshshaytana waliyyan min dooni Allahi faqad khasira khusranan mubeenan
One disclaimer again. I am not doubting the authenticity of Sahih Bukhari , It is authentic to the extent that Imam Bukhari(RA) compiled it. He did very hard work in compling it. But I wish he had examined the hadees for its content too instead of examining it for chain of narration. And if he examined the Hadees content too then he was not prophet and made some mistakes. These mistakes do not invalidate the whole compilation but parts of it.
^ Bro stop right there. Do not enter the boundries of categorizing hadiths as fabricated or weak or strong.
If they appear contradictory, there are different categories of contradiction in hadiths, did you know that? Do us avg joes know anything? No.
just because to US they appear contradictary doesn't mean they are what they seem.
Hadiths are a colleciton of over 23 years of the Propher pbuh's life, I haven't even seen that much yet! How can we categorize something as weak, when at different time and different places they were captured?
Before more people get any wrong ideas, this thread should be closed. I think it served its purpose.
"Different categories of contradiction"? What a great summary of trying to sort through hadith. How many categories must one sort through to find the truth? This post is exhibit A why trying to find answers for insignificant, non-spritual, cultural matters is not going to be found by sorthing throgh categories of contradiction (hadith).
If average Joes don't know anything after 1400 years of study, that ought to tell you something. If one has to study categories of contradiction to determine if its permissable to shape their brows, it may be too late as the hair has turned gray.

I would be a fool to waste my time explaining it to you. Its better to keep your mouth shut about things which you have no knowledge of.
The point is, your arrogant attitude aside, you are the one lacking knowledge. You can't even exlpain it to yourself, how could you possibly explain to anyone else?

P.S. It’s called sunnipath and gives advice from the sunni perspective- just thought I’d warn all those of you who follow alternative Islamic schools of thought!
