Shalwaar Kameez or Sari

i didnt know where to post this, but i thought it was a lot more appropriate here, so what do you guys think looks better, Shalwaar Kameez or Sari, i have a function that i must attend soon and have no idea what to wear. What would look better also what do you girls feel comfortable in? I personally feel a lot more comfortable in Shalwaar Kameez, or Kameez with a bootcut trouser, but i also think saris are gorgeous too. I have a dilemma people, help me out!!

Well it depends what type of saree or shalvar kameez you have.I love sarees - and I think for the upcoming parties Im attending, Im going to wear a saree to every single one of them.

If you can. post pics of the outfits.Or describe what they look like. Then we can help you choose.

:hula:

saris r very elegant but its very hard to carry them with style, If u can handle that, i say go for the sari

i love saris but it depends on function n ur persnoilty ...try 2 describe abt sari and abt what party u r gonna attend .

hey you guys, dont know how to post pics so i shall have to describe, the sari is pink, a baby pink colour, with silver embriodery on the sides, i totally love it. The shalwaar kameez is a red, a toned down red with fashionable slits in the arms and zari embroidery on the neckline and scarf, it is the wedding of a close family friend, plz help girls.

Girl, let me try helping you out…

Go with the red kameez/pajama outfit that has deep slits on the kameez arms. It sounds perhaps understated, as per your description, but elegant yet you can always doctor the outfit up with some well-chosen pieces of jewelry, nice high-heeled strappy shoes, and an elegant evening bag.

The pink sari sounds nice but in my view, the whole silver embroidery bit throws me for a loop. You aren’t family of the wedding party so don’t over-do your look. Be understated yet elegant and trust me you will get noticed plenty!

PS: You seem like you have a nice sense of style. Keep it up, kiddo :k:

thank you sweetpie and the rest of you, you are rite about not overdoing the look and i could always save the sari for EID, and as you happen to mention it, i have a great collection of red jewellery and accessories, from bangles to bindi, i have everything, so i think i will go with the shalwaar kameez. And thanks for the compliment on sense of style, i love pastel shades, they are gorgeous

PS: you were the third person who suggested the red shalwaar kameez,

I attend literally a desi event a month or more so here is my two cents worth. In Paki or North Indian events shalwar kameez dominates but in the highest leve l Indian events it is not considered formal enough. Sari is more forgiving than shalwaar k if you have a few extra pounds that you don't want to show off. Many times I have seen a big Punjabi lady at two events, once wearing a sari and other an sk. IMO she looked better in sari because sari hides better.

The choice of colour is also important. If you are going to a wedding don't outdo the bride. In your case, silver embroidary sari would be too much for a wedding. The red SK would be all right if the red isn't too bright. A darker red as in burgandy would be fine.

Could'nt you post the pics so we can give a more accurate opinion?

I’m not a female but I’ll butt in any way.

I find women in Saris really attractive provided they are tall, have a decent figure and long hair (Shilpa Shetty), women who are medium/short height look better in Shalwar Kameez.

I am not a female either, but I'll butt in anyway...

Sari is the most baihooda and useless piece of clothing ever designed...

It is hard to maintain, hard to wear, expensive yet hardly covers the parts that are supposed to be covered and not to mention Islamically quite taboo...

Saris are great for Hindi movies though, where Ranjeet in a rape scene can pull on one end of the Sari and the girl can unfurl out of it in one swirl, or in a rain scene where it clings to the body like saran wrap...

Sari is crap and makes a woman look like a coccon about to hatch into a moth...Thank god it's out of fashion and let's hope it stays that way...

^sari is the most decent outfit if u know how to wear :)...

salaam once again

Arvind- u r rite that shalwaar kameez does dominate the pakistani type functions and i am glad that i am going with that choice. but thanks again for the point in the rite direction

Lajawab- i am a muslim as well and my sari is in no way revealing,it has a full blouse and believe me the saris in bollywood movies be summwat OTT, they are usually out of the norm for pakistani's.

thankyou everyone for helping me out.

if the choli is one which covers the back, stomach and has long sleeves and the palu is long enough to wear over the head then there's nothing wrong with it.

Muslim Bengali women over here wear them like that.

For you LJ, sari is crap because it comes from India. There is usually no other reasoning behind your posts.

Yup, I love sarees and yes, I have worn them a few times at weddings. As someone above said, Bengali women wear sarees all the time and manage to keep themselves covered, so the argument that all sarees are "baihooda" is simply ridiculous.

That being said, it all depends on the occassion, style and how you wear it. Some women look amazing in shalwar kameez and others look better in sarees. I've worn sarees to weddings where I'm not a member of the family and I've gotten noticed and complimented on it. :p

Hi Peeps,
I'm new to this service and acame accross your title: Shalwar Kameez or Sari?
Interesting!!
Both, I can only relay my opinion from a blokes point of view so.......Shalwar Kameez if the sun is out and your taking a stroll thru' the park with you partner/(someone you love). And Sari when your Ball room dancing or out on a romantic night out.

However, Ladies and Gents, we have failed to notice the awesome cherry that nestles comfortable on top of the cake......yes ...........
