Re: Shall India break off relations with Israel
The real diplomatic intention of opening and maintaining fair relationship by India with Israel was to gain a preferential treatment from U.S. vis a vis Pakistan. But this has so far not worked since U.S. doesn't want to be seen partial towards either of the country since it considers Pakistan stretegically important in the region. Indian diplomats still hope that some day U.S. would tilt more towards India by having a fairly good relationship with Israel. But India cannot further strengthen relationship with Israel since Indian politicians cannot ignore powerful 15% muslim vote and another 20% leftist vote. So 35% vote bank (which is not BJP's vote bank) is a powerful detriment to further strengthen the relationship with Israel.
Recent weakening of relationship with Iran was another diplomatic strategy to gain some preference from U.S. over Pakistan. This eventually resulted in a preferential nuclear deal with U.S.
In all probabilities, India will not weaken its relationship with Isreal because of its long term diplomatic goal of getting preferential treatment from U.S. vis a vis Pakistan.
