Having said that, I don’t think there was a kid involved. Not Afridi’s daughter (what’s she doing there anyway), not any other random kid. It just seemed like a cover up tactic by him after his brain took in the ruckus he caused in front of the camera. You see the video and Afridi brings in the kids excuse, after he gave the fan his mind.

Speaking of the camera, if a little kid was there, the camera would have panned and showed him/her down on the ground.

Aye. To be fair I've only seen the original video, not had the time to watch Afridi's interview. :) The events that transpired, while bad, are not entirely new. We have seen misbehaving crowd many a times before, and not just in Pakistan. But what surprised me was the sheer lack of planning from the management (PCB as well as their airport). And frankly our media and the idiotic fans should learn some manners too.

The only reason where I would support fans gathering to greet players is when they win the World Cup. Even then it should be properly planned and managed so no one gets hurt. Like they say, it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

Agreed. I don’t mind emotional as much as idiotic. Even with the wide ranging growth in media plus increase in literacy and education, there are enough bozos who live by disorganized chaos. The moment they see something that interests them, their animal instincts take over and the set their manners aside.

What’s even worse is that a lot of these common people when they go out of country, they start following rules and regulations to a tee. It’s almost like they are hellbent on destroying/giving a bad name only to Pakistan. Anyway, I also can’t help thinking something must be brewing in Afridi’s mind at that time. I’ve met the guy in person, and he’s much more in control of himself.

Something must have been bothering him the way he ran after that fan and the language Afridi used. Keeping in mind the risk to his daughter.

True. At least, a fair few bits more restrained than this. :) Having said that it would be nice if we heard the fan's viewpoint (the one I saw in the video) and what he was on about, but ultimately this is something that will pass in a day or two. Media wanted a kick or two out of this incident, and they got it.

It'll be worth it if both the fans, players and management learn a lesson or two out of it, though.

If his daughter was on the ground, what was Afridi doing punching the guy instead of picking his daughter up? In the video, Afridi is seen getting into the car after scuffle, and his daughter is nowhere in sight.

Never quite understand why people run to the airport to greet these guys - they just won the Asia cup - big deal. If they ever win a World Cup again, then I can understand people going to the airport to welcome them - otherwise why waste your time and in the process continue to build egos of egotistical maniacs like Afridi?

Stay home people...do something with your lives...dont waste rose petals, and your time on losers like Afridi - let them do something worthwhile like win another WC - beating Sri Lanka and barely beating Bangladesh twice to come home with a trophy is nothing to be so happy about that you would put your self respect to one side.

Actions like these are what cause these losers to think of themselves as superstars.

spot on .....mar mar kay meaningless asia cup jeeta ha and the nation is treating them as if the whole world has been conquered......newspapers putting main headings...on top of that India say mun kala karwa liya...and that too third time in a row...the team has so many inherent weaknesses...i mean, dont think i am being unfair...when we won the world cup, i was one among those who brought the team from airport to data darbar in 6 hours...now these players have not done anything that special.....so come on!

The Afridi on karachi airport tonight, was NOT a Cricketer. He was FATHER, who lost it, when he saw his daugher down on the floor, hurt and crying. My respect for Lala just went through the roof. I don't have any kids, but I'd tear anyone apart if they did anything bad to my Nephew.

Some of the fans do behave like idiots in desperation for autographs, some are even abusive, but this does not justify Afridi’s (animal) behavior. There should be some difference between him and a ghunda, mawali in the street. Notice Afridi’s demeanor before he punches the guy. He seems like a volcano about to erupt!!

Afridi should not have had his daughter there, there obviously would be masses of fans and journalists there, the daughter should have been safe in the car and not in the crowd. You have to be responsible and show some common sense. If the daughter’s toes were stepped on, a simple ‘Watch what you are doing’ or ‘Move out of the way’ would have sufficed. You don’t, as an international cricketer and an ambassador of the Pakistan cricket team go and lash out at someone like that. This is not the first time when Afridi’s emotions get the better of himself. Also the fans are like a bunch of animals, treating Afridi as some god. There is a child there, just back off.

I did not condone Younis’s behaviour when he beat up a poor guy who just happened to trip over something and fall in his path nor can I defend Afridi’s animal behaviour
