Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

PPP is primarily composed of Sindhis and Seraiki speakers. And Shahbaz is openly blaming them for deliberately destroying Punjab’s economy.
True that the economy is suffering. But isn’t it happening all across the country?

If this is happening everywhere then the government’s incompetence should be blamed instead of making it a Punjab-related issue only.

What do you think?

Federal govt inflicting
KASOOR: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has urged the nation to support him in a march towards capital against the ruling Pakistan People’s Party government, DawnNews reported.
Addressing a crowd gathered in Kasoor for a demonstration in protest of load-shedding, Sharif said that** the federal government was inflicting serious damage on Punjab**.
Sharif criticised the government, blaming President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani of destroying Punjab’s economy with prolonged power outages.
Businesses and factories in the province are closing down due to the government’s poor and inefficient policies, said the chief minister, adding that the people were struggling to afford a single meal a day.
The chief minister further told the people that he would accompany the people shoulder to shoulder in their protest against loadshedding.
The** federal government is trying to ‘take revenge from the province’** with loadshedding as it has taken its toll on Punjab’s villages and cities, he said.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

He is the Chief Minister of Punjab and would talk about his province. He is not very wrong in his analysis though. Comparatively speaking, industries from Faisalabad/Gujranwala and around get much less energy (electricity or gas). He also needs to cover up incompetence of his own government too :P

However, if Nawaz Sharif said such things, you could criticize.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

I understand he is the PM of the province, and he will only talk of his province. But still it is surprising because he is saying that it is a 'revenge on Punjab'.
He is not saying that it is happening due to government's incompetence rather it is being done deliberately to destroy Punjab.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

Don't worry people of Punjab don't take his antics that seriously now, he can say whatever he wants people will judge him for his performance and not the punjabi card. But one thing is for sure the people of Punjab for a long time feel that they are being punished deliberately, the winters that have just passed there was no gas for faisalabad industries for months and the loadshedding on the average is more in Punjab, millions have become jobless and industries are moving to bangladesh. Still the people will judge his performance, there will not be any long march.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

^ I think you are right.
He is playing Punjab card only because PMLN feels threatened by PTI. PMLN has done it before and it did work. But now people know very well PMLN's performance. So more votes are going to go to PTI. If PTI delivers then PMLN will be history.

As far as power crisis, I think it is sheer incompetence and corruption of PPP. Nothing else.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

^ I agree, as far as shahbaz sharif saying that punjab is being deliberately targeted this is a common feeling among people of the province and I agree it's due to incompetence.

Now should a chief minister say these kind of words, threatening long marches, and giving justice to zardari on the streets I don't think any reasonable person would support that. This is trash language that zardari was using on his recent multans trip with reference to takht e Lahore.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

PPP and PMNL both are equally responsible. what has PMNL done for people of Punjab? their performance is absolutely zero as well!

so tired of this blame game!!!

why is that Punjab is not producing their own electricity, they have the capacity to do so? so why not?

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

According to Chota Shere Punjab, the CM of Punjab, Punjab is wholly dependent on Gilani and Zardari. Idiot.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

Actually Punjab has been on the hit list... Sanitary-related product /ceramics Industry in Gujranwala has been story of old times, where 60,000 families were employed, the industry which use to export and generate foreign exchange is almost closed, why, because this particular industry have been deprived of Gas and Electricity... now that may be nothing to you, but it is big thing in Punjab because some 60,000 people were connected to it!!!

This was just an example to show what has been done with Industries of Gujrat, Faislabad, Sialkot Gujranwala etc!!!!
True that the economy is suffering.

well, which cities other than Lahore, FSD etc receives power cut of 14-16 hours on daily basis, care to name those cities in other provinces which are being handled like this?
What do you think?

I know most of the parties in Pakistan want some one like Qayam Ali Shah or Ameeri Hoti or Aslam Raisani as a CM for Punjab!! so that they can easily do whatever they need to do to make money out of Public funds or if they are in habit of killing people ( likes of ANP, PPP and MQM as SC have mentioned them in their decision) can kill scores of people and still call themselves innocent or victim!!!

Yeah many in this forum will be at ease if Likes of Raja Riaz the opposition leader in PA to the CM of sindh, yeah, they want to be the CM and just do what other CMs are doing!!!! that is nothing!!!

Yes lets ridicule CM of Punjab who had atleast done something compare to others and lets give others benefit of doubt or even better, let us say, Because SS is CM of Punjab, that is why KPK, Sind and Balochistan are in Mess!!!

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

when you last visited Punjab or when was last time you have red anything about Punjab under SS>>> or it is because others are bashing him so you have to put your 2 cents please share with us the corruption cases, where the Punjab govt have not made any Modell Villages for the victims of the Punjab province whereas, in Sind and KPK and Balochsitan the victims of the flood are living under the open skies, why because the govt did nothing, the so-called donation collector collected billions of Rupees and did nothing for them… atleast i know one who said in the live TV that he have now collected 2 billion Pak rupees and that was it… no model villages no restoration yeah!!!

PDMA Punjab - Home

yeah they did nothing…keep on the mantra, don’t let it die

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

The loadshedding in lahore these days is 10 hours per day, but we should remember that shahbaz sharif signed the 18th amendment which has given right of commodities to the provinces producing them firstly, and secondly due to 19th amendment they can produce their own electricity.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

This is related to the topic as well as it seems Shahbaz sharif had inked an agreement with China for a hydel project in Taunsa but they have backed out as federal government is not giving guarantees for the project.

Dunya News: Pakistan:-Chinese apologise to start Taunsa Hydel project…

**It is of the view that if Federal Government guarantees the project, it is ready to commence work on the project.
**
**Punjab government led by CM Shahbaz Sharif had signed an agreement with the Chinese company half and a year back. Now the company has not only apologized for making feasibility report of the project but also refused to work on the project, with the demand that unless and until, the Federal Government provides guarantee, company would not start work.
**
Punjab government has offered the guarantee of the Bank of Punjab but the Chinese company refused to accept the offer.

Company is of the view that province have no arrangement of purchasing electricity.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

^ I tried to find more info on this but looks like this is the only latest news on the subject. It would be interesting to see what federal government is saying regarding this.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

Now they realise what large areas of Balochistan, KP and Sindh have felt for decades!

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

^ I agree with you every one should have facilities, but its never a good sign when countries start regressing to stone age. If they damage the economy of Punjab ultimately Government of Pakistan will suffer with low tax incomes and hence lower purchasing power to provide commodities to the whole country, its a vicious cycle. Punjab contributes to 60 % GDP of the country, if the government damages that the loser will be GOP itself.

This is a glimpse of Punjab’s economy.

The economy of Punjab, Pakistan is one that is largely based on agriculture and industry. Punjab is the largest province of Pakistan in terms of population, and also has the largest and fastest growing economy in the country compared to other provinces and administrative units.[SUP][1][/SUP] Punjab’s economy has quadrupled since 1972.[SUP][2][/SUP] **Its share of Pakistan’s GDP was 54.7% in 2000 and 59% as of 2010. It is especially dominant in the Service & Agriculture sectors of the Pakistan Economy. With its contribution ranging from 52.1% to 64.5% in the Service Sector and 56.1% to 61.5% in the Agriculture Sector. **It is also major manpower contributor because it has largest pool of professionals and highly skilled (Technically trained) manpower in Pakistan. It is also dominant in the Manufacturing sector, though the dominance is not as huge, with historical contributions raging from a low of 44% to a high of 52.6%.[SUP][3][/SUP] In 2007, Punjab achieved a growth rate of 7.8%[SUP][4][/SUP] and during the period 2002-03 to 2007-08, its economy grew at a rate of between 7% to 8% per year.[SUP][5][/SUP] and during 2008-09 grew at 6% against the total GDP growth of Pakistan at 4%.

I don't know how true you are about Faisalabad and I don't know the schedule of power outage in other cities.

But if it is really true then I would say Shahbaz Sharif is getting a payback from PPP. ;)

After all, PMLN neglected southern Punjab and other parts of country. It used money at their expense to develop Punjab-speaking areas alone. This Old cities like Multan were totally neglected. This is why we see reaction of Seraiki speaking people when they demand a separate province.

So may be you are right about PPP deliberately doing it to Punjabi speaking areas. I probably was wrong to think that it was just incompetence of PPP.

Remember PPP's slogan: Democracy is the best revenge.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

And when PML-N Neglected that region???

Southern Punjab is neglected by none other than the very Feudal and Gaddi Nasheen of South Punjab for instance

1) Khosa Family have remained in Power since independence!!! what good they have brought to their respective region.... currently, Latif Khosa of PPP is Governor of Punjab, whereas Zulfiqar Khosa is close aide of Shahbaz Sharif

2) Laghari Family: Like Khosas Have been in Power ever since.... Farooq Laghari was the president of Pakistan, Owais Laghari and his other cousins and brothers were ministers in Mushy era and were MNA until recently when they resigned and joined PTI..

3) Qureshi Family: In Power as long as i can remember, SMQ was Nazim of his area (need not to tell you what difference Nazim can bring) during Mushy area, was Foreign MInister in the current govt until he was denied foreign ministry and he jumped the ship to join PTI

4) Hashmi: Another one, same as above

5) Doltanas: same as above, have been ruling the entire Punjab and Pakistan

6) Gillani: have been in power circle, and is now PM of Pakistan... he could have changed the entire Southern Belt into some developed area but he is committed to bring the developed Punjab down to the level of Southern Punjab

Now none of above joins or leave any party because of ideology or something like that... they just do it to be in power!!! and other purpose of them to be in power is keep the development and awareness away from this region!!!

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

Although South Punjab has always been neglected (although their feudals have always been in the parliament as ministers), I will not debate that, but this seraiki province that Zardari is talking about the only reason for that seems to keep feudalism in the area intact. The South Punjab will have a considerable population of Punjabis, I dont know which cities will be included but Bahawalnagar, Vehari and Sahiwal are Punjabi districts and I was watching one program according to which the seraiki province will have 47 % Punjabis and 43 % Seraikis. As far as Faisalabad is concerned its power and gas outages have been in the news for the past few months, many industries have shut down and others are moving to Bangladesh.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

As far as Gilani. He is doing something for Multan. So your argument is not entirely valid.

http://www.pakistantoday.com.pk/2011/08/15/city/islamabad/thank-you-mr-gilani-for-development-in-multan-but-…/

*Multan had been ignored by successive governments since the British rulers invaded India. On January 23, Prime Minister Gilani inaugurated development projects worth Rs 10 billion including seven mega projects at Chungi No 9, which includes six flyovers and extension of Bosan Road, extension project of the road in Chowk Nang Shah and a basic health centre at Hamid Pur Kanora.

Former Punjab food minister Hussain Jahania Gardezi thinks the development projects launched by the prime minister were need of the hour and he had taken a bold step to do the needful. “But in my view, a lot has to be done for Multanis as these development projects are nothing in comparison to the development done** in other parts of the province**. You can simply compare the quantum of development with the fact that the development projects launched across southern Punjab are less than the money dumped in building the Ring Road Lahore from airport to Defence Phase-V,” he said.*

Question is: didn’t PMLN neglect them at the expense of Punjabi speaking areas?
There is only one reason for it. RACE-BASED POLITICS OF PMLN.
It is this politics that has inflicted incompetent PPP over our heads. And it is due to this that PMLN is soon going to be history at the hands of Imran Khan.

Re: Shahbaz Sharif playing Punjab card?!

^^ Tells alot about MQM knowing anything about Seraiki or Southern Punjab region!!!
