From what I heard, it's on Saturday (i.e. in Canada), but I am not sure.

Shab-e-Barat is when everyone's fate is decided, who is to live that year, who is to die, who will be born etc. etc. etc.

I am not sure if there’s a thread on it where this is being discussed, and I don’t really mean to give this thread a whole new direction, but I read on Islam QA that any fasting and prayers that you do specifically because of this night should be avoided as it’s bidah. If you normally fast on, say every saturday, and this night falls on Saturday, go ahead. If you offer Isha prayer everynight and 10 extra nafal every night, then do so on this night as well. But don’t do anything extra just because it’s Shab-e-Miraj/Shab-e-Barat

According to our local masjid, shab-e-barat is the night between Saturday and Sunday.

I am sure you are right, but do keep in mind that islam-qa.com is a website maintained by those following ahl-e-hadith maslak. Shab-e-barat is something that is part of the beliefs of ahl-e-sunnah-wal-jamaah maslak, which is the dominant maslak in Pakistan.
